I think the subject line is self-explanatory. I'm thinking of expanding our cable subscription and getting a premium one to boot. Which one gives more bang for the buck? Which offers more movies and has the better original series?
Personal opinions welcome!

IMO I would get HBO but that is mainly because I like Game of Thrones, True Blood and Newsroom. HBO go is pretty solid as well but I think showtime just started something similar. Movies are a draw. Only downside of HBO is the wait time between seasons.

Both have stone good series, both have good movie selection. HBO Go would be the deciding factor for me. But if Showtime has something equivalent, I'd go with the better deal.
Or skip them both and get Netflix..... ;)

Got Netflix (and Amazon Prime, and Hulu Plus). I'm thinking the series offered by both would be the bigger selling point for me.

Then figure out which series you like more and stop bothering us with your dumb-ass, fucking rich-guy questions. What's next? "Should I get the Bentley or the Rolls?"
Come down here with us 99%ers, and choose between the PB&J and Top Ramen like the rest of us, while washing it down with a Beer brand beer.
Pfft, silly rich folk!!
;)

Honestly, I'd go with HBO. The shows tend to have more gratuitous action, and they tend to get the better movies quicker.

"Rich" as in full of calories and fat? Yes, that would be spot-on in that case. Howver, if you're referring to money...well buddy, I have to scrape couch change to buy a pack of the aforementioned ramen noodles more often than not.
LOL.
Seriously though, HBO sounds compelling.

Homeland and Dexter are the only shows watched on Showtime. There never seems to be anything else often than the occasional boxing that I watch.

The season ended last Sunday, and has already been confirmed to be back on next year.

I used to work for verizon FiOS in sales and showtime's a POS, I can honestly say in the year that a worked there probably one person out of the thousands I've sold asked specifially for showtime. Can never go wrong with HBO, Game of Thrones. Enough Said.

I have both. There is an HBO go app for Xbox 360 which is great, and showtime has the showtime anytime app for all smartphones/tablets, coming to the Xbox soon. I watch a lot of show from both networks, so asking me to pick is like Sophie's choice haha

Wow I need those apps. I have both too, the kids watch more hob family than anything and I seem mainly on hob these days, does the selection come with on demand shows like my cable. So since I have HBO I get the on demand of their movies and series

I heard something a year or so ago, may be untrue, that FIOS wasn't going to be expanded at all in future due to a deal Verizon made with Comcast. Something about each other cutting in on one another's markets or something.
