Well as some of you already know, I went out on Friday and purchased a 2008 Dodge Nitro. I was in love the second I drove it. We needed a bigger car, the VW Golf was getting a little cramped for the four of us. Anyway, I am stoked about the new SUV and, here are some pics...

Nice. You don't have to tell the price but did you get a good deal? How was the buying experience? Did you leave the family home and go yourself?

I feel like I got a good deal, I paid $20,000 (after the trade). The experience went very well, I was in and put in about 3 hours. I go in with a no bullshit attitude, and tell them what I expect, it usually turns out to be the best for me. I took the family because this is technically my wifes birthday present. Overall, I would give it a five out of five stars, both experience and vehicle are superb.
Some one give me a design for a decal and I will consider puting it on the Nitro.

Thanks Tracker, I just got the official confirmation that the financing went through. So I now officially own/paying on the Nitro.

I do like the silver, personally though I prefer Black for all of my vehicles, but silver does look good on this one.

i stay far away from silver. Maybe it was just a San Diego Marine thing but it seemed any and every marine would get a silver toyota tacoma. So of course when i went to get my tacoma and they showed me silver i said hell no, black or blue, no silver. Marine Corps issue silver, good for everyone else but i guess i'm a rebel

Did you walk onto the lot and find it or did you find it on a dealer website? How many miles on it?

All i am allowed to tel you TLOG, is my Name, Rank, and Service Number. :o
Really though, i found it online and filed out the pre-approval form online. Then I went to the lot the next day and told them to give it to me. It has 27,000 miles, and the tits (this is supposed to say tires) are pretty new, it has one rock chip in the windshield, and a small smudge on the rear quartet panel. Other then the minor defects the car is perfect, and the interior is immaculate.

I ask all this because I fully expect to take the plunge on a used vehicle this year. It's scary though. Like Lebron, you only enter free agency once in a blue moon so you have to make the right choice.

I understand, and you are absolutely correct, used cars can be scary. Just go with a "trusted" dealer, and read up about possible defects on the car you are looking at. Google is a vital tool for finding defects that you can expect with a used car.

i agree, google is a very powerful ally
Just this morning it helped me save a friend from getting scammed for $2,800 on craigslist. She found a used 2002 mini cooper for 2,800, with cost of shipping included from Georgia to here in California and she thought she struck gold. Luckily me and google came along and straightened her out. For starters, the bluebook value of that car with high mileage and no accessories is nearly 4x the asking price, and shipping that distance would cost somewhere around $700, so for a person to be asking for 2k for a "perfect condition" car is extremely fishy. On top of that, the seller wanted to go through the "ebay vehicle protection program". She still was not completely convinced that it was a scam so i typed eBay Vehicle Protection Program in google and wouldn't you know it, one of the first things that pops up is someone reporting a scam where they got ripped off for, you guessed it, $2,800.
moral of the story, google can never be used too much

Any offer to ship a vehicle over craigslist is almost always a scam. If you do happen to do craiglist looking for a vehicle do it in person. They even have warnings up on there site for that about being scammed from it. Be very careful with craigslist. It can be great or you could get royally fucked!

Well I have officially taken the Nitro out into the Mud. It rocked, I was quite impressed.
What you run through a small mud puddle on the side of the pavement?   Come on if it ain't covering the sides of the car you didn't go in any real good mud. But hey I guess it's a family wagon with street tires not a real 4x4.

LOL! Well we went for a drive up into the Mountains, and we found a couple of short runs off of the main road. They were not All really muddy, it was just standing water and mud. This was the preliminary run, I am definitely going to be getting this baby covered. The main problem is that there are not that many trails to run on out here, and the ones that I can get through are pretty far away for just a day drive.

Well, saviger, I am lacking a few trails like that out here. Most of what I have to work with is desert, but when it rains out here all that desert turns into muddy fun. I dig the Spur hanging from the mirror though.
