I think you'd be better off not trying it.


Please bear in mind that ReactOS 0.3.14 is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is not recommended for everyday use.

Plus it's likely to be years behind current Windows development, meaning it probably won't be compatible with Windows 7 stuff.

If you have an extra computer lying around AND you feel like debugging potentially a lot of problems, then be my guest. I just think you're going to waste a lot of time for no real gain.

True, but unless you absolutely need Windows without actually using Windows, I would say you'll just waste your time. Better to pick up a good Linux distro and work on that.

Not very familiar with either. If they are FIPS-compliant, then they're probably not bad, although my experience with laptop fingerprint readers is that they reject proper fingers more often than not.

E.g. the slightly older ones (3+ years old) were not very good at recognizing the finger registered to it. It would reject my finger if I didn't swipe it just right. I don't know if this has been improved. The external desktop ones worked great though.

I don't know that that is possible without doing a significant amount of modifications even if it is possible.

Besides, you'll never be able to close all the backdoors.

I don't know what setup you're using, but on both XP and Vista, we could just use the fingerprint reader at the main logon screen fine.

Yeah, my work laptop, think pad t410, does fine from the login screen with just a scan of the finger.

Maybe it has something to do with the different versions. My laptop has Win 7 Enterprise and I just scan without clicking anything.

We had XP Pro and Vista Home Premium and neither had to click. It might just be the specific model of fingerprint reader.

Exactly. I would recommend Ubuntu or another Debian-based distro for minimal hassle. Fedora has better hardware support, but is not quite as easy to use.

Yeah I use Ubuntu. I was using Fedora at work for the better hardware support until some things just got too much of a hassle so I went with Ubuntu.

I used to swear by Ubuntu as well but then they went and Microsofted it up. Now they also sell user info and shit. I use Fedora or Red Hat...My question is what does your gf have that you need to close all the back doors to the pc? If you setup your network and firewall correctly that really gets rid of 99 problems and a hacker aint one...Lol corny I know. In all seriousness, i work for Deere and Company as an IT Security Analyst and we have never had any of our pcs penetrated... If you follow safe practices and keep the pc up to date with patches you should be fine.

Well externally the only thing I'm worried about is that there are Alot of people can get into windows with out permission tho physically now that I have a smart card reader ordered should be a little bit more tight
