Do you guys think this would be a good thing for me to get, since I am interested in getting a job in the IT field?

So many networks in School and business and when I was government are Cisco or follow alot of Cisco's guidelines. I know its one of the best phone systems I have implemented. I wish I could take that class.

I think that is a great bundle to have on a resume and for doing IT

II believe the Cisco test are between 175.00 - 225.00
You know these are reimbursable expenses with MGIB. You pay up front, and if you pass you get a check from the VA for the amount of the exam.

Cisco is the bonafide 800pound gorilla of networking telecom, its credential is recognized anywhere, and companies pay big money for certified Cisco engineers.

Definitely well worth it db.

Yeah I am definitely tempted in getting this. After the training I wonder how much the tests are for the certs. If I get this I can start studying up on this during the summer before my fall semester starts back up.

My buddy just took another Cert test and passed this morning, He was in the army with me in Germany, met his wife and never came back lol.

This link has Cisco's pricing. I am not smart enough to remember terminology, I have been doing IT for 24 years and have never been certified or taken a training course, I have been so stupid lucky, I can do the job and people believe my street knowledge is good enough.

I took PASCAL for a semester in 10th grade. The army always turned me down for classes and when I got out I was handed a consulting Job as an outsourced Logistical Implementation Consultant for UPS.

And get this in the Army I was a Cav scout E-4 and I was the computer instructor and NCO for Europe on all command and Control systems for V corps. I was always turned away from any training they said I was wasting my time cause the instructor would ask me for help.

Now I am the Database, Network Security(I have no Idea why) and mobile device Administrator for my School district, I am called the FACILITATOR, thats my actual title lol

My understanding is that its a several day long, written, oral and practical lab exam. But to have earned the credential means that you are no joke, highly sought, and salaries are easily $$$ 6-figure..

Hey DBG I'll get my wife to look at this thread and if you get this she might be able to help find a job, She did ISP sales out of the Cisco Atlanta office then a CAM there up till 6 years ago, she still knows a lot of tech people in the SE area, what are your degrees in?

I actually did purchase this groupon last night. I don't currently had a degree but I am working on my associates now. After I get that I'm going to get my bachelors of computer science with a CIS option from Athens State University. Any help finding a new and improved job would be great, thanks!

I went through this training and got CCNA and CCNP and others from it. usually community colleges use this as well so id check there, it may be the cheaper route. All in all it was pretty good and worth it. never tried the CCIE as my salary bumped enopugh with both those.

I saw that groupon too... $99 for a training class is an unheard of deal...just look at the fine print. As the other poster's have indicated...CCNA, CCNP are great foundations from a cert perspective with CCIE being the pinnacle...those certs definitely pay for themselves from a marketability and earning power in the tech field.

the wife say yeah and if you already have an IT background and ready to work look them up and see about getting a job, they might hire you and then pay for the exams. I know 2 CCIE who have been sales engineers working with my wife, I know the CCIE is a tough one to get too, but you can almost write your ticket if done. also if you have any specific questions just ask.

Dude, if you pass the cert, companies will hire you.. Cisco certified anything, in very high demand.

At a minimum, with a CCNA/CCNP, you'd probably start in the $40-60k range..

About how long does it take to study for these exams?

depends.. I remember the CCNA being almost all practical lab. Meaning you go into a simulation, and actually configure a network router, and a few switches, setup vlans, and rules.. etc..

I'd probably say a few days at the least, to cover material and practice.

Sweet that's what I am talking about. I like money and can't wait to make big bucks. Hopefully I will be closer to the 60 range. I am almost certain that when I switch to the IT field I will unfortunately probably have to take a slight pay cut.
