Hey guys with my family and I moving to Texas on base. We were gonna buy a pup for the kiddo. We are looking into a pug or english bulldog because I don't want to pick up giant piles of shit. Anyone have any experience with either breed?

My buddy has an English Bulldog that isn't a year old yet. He's an awesome dog and well trained and great with kids.

English bulldogs can have some health issues. If u get one make sure u research it's blood line to make sure there isn't any reacuring issues. I have a dog de bordeaux (french mastiff). Got her in Belgum when I was in Germany, best dog in the world!

I dont know much about those dogs but I will say to get them from a AKC breeder, but shop around first and look at the facility that the breeder has. Ask how many times the female has been bred and make sure the male and female dont come from the same blood line. Not every AKC breeder is trustworthy so if something doesnt seem right tell them you will call them back and leave.

Pug would probably be your best bet. If you're looking for a dog that will have less health issues and keep you out the vet, than go with the Pug. The bulldog is a great pet but you'll spend a lot of money in the vet office. Like SMG said, do your research when getting a bulldog. They come with all kinds of issues due to their constant inbreeding when they first started the breed. Cancer is a huge issue when it comes to bulldogs and they have a life span of 6 to 8 years.

These Basenji hardly bark and when they do it usually means there something going on, our dog has cornered deer, ground-hog, killed a turkey vulture and had a possum act dead. Heck he is so silent we have to put bells on him at night so we can find him when its time to come in. Plus in the 5 yrs we had him, I have only seen him dump a couple of times, he drops all in the same place in the far corner of the back yard.

He does his nightly patrols and if I'm playing video games he waits for me at the top of the steps to the basement, then starts his roaming.

Pugs are good dogs. But they are loud. Any dog that looks like he ran into a wall at full speed will snore horribly because of the short nasal passages. I have a boston terrier. He's snores a lot. He's a great dog, smart as hell, but loud. Usually I'll nudge him in the middle of the night to get him to stop snoring for a bit.

Our neighbors have 2 pugs. They are cute, but they complain about how loud they snore. They're also high maintenance keeping them clean, and have to be careful with their eyes. They can't have a christmas tree because they can poke their eyes out with the needles. Also one of them has under arm bo like a human, that's with a bath every two days. I don't think that's normal though.

Pugs have health issues with their bathing because of their snouts just like bulldogs. As stated already they are annoying as hell, and don't underestimate the loads of a bulldog lol. Honestly I recommend going to a pound to rescue if possible. Blue healers are good dogs and not to big for being a larger breed. Apartment pits are awesome...little but as loving, protective, and good with kids as regular pits. Just get a puppy to raise, so you are sure it's not been in the wrong hands.cocker spaniels can go either way with kids...they need to be raised around them, and if your kids are high energy and loud i don't recommend them. Honestly though most little breeds are not the best family dogs...you may have to deal with big poop lol

I agree with Specops about spaniels, I have a chunk of ear missing because my parents spaniel bit me in the face. Most small dogs are very annoying that why I have stuck with the bigger ones.

One of my aunts renters has a doxen and i was working on her property doing something. I had my lab Thor with me, before he died, and that stupid dog came over and attacked him. Needless to say that dog got launched through the air.

True, but some dogs are more dangerous innately. That's not to say they can't make good pets, you just have to invest more time into them to make them that way.

Pits where designed to be a guard dog, not a play dog. They defend their owners and their territory. It just sucks, because of their nature, people use them for more than protection. Vets say that pits are one of the best family dogs to have and like Sam said. You have to train them to not be as aggressive as they where bred to be

Yes exactly the same goes for German Shepards, Labs, Rots, Dobermans, and any other dog that had a bad name at one point in time. My friend has a pit/great daine mix that he rescued through a charity that rescues puppies that were supposed to be fight dogs. Its the best dog ever and not any aggression what so ever.

They ask if you have a dog and what type would you call it, well if you have anything over 60 to 70 bang, certain types bang, it become the most paid out incident got home owner insurance or one of the tops, again back when I was growing up you go bite your usually deserve it, not now for any type of dog bite people get all crazy, hell several years ago in Atlanta our HVAC went out in summer, guys show up start working on it, dude runs up stairs open a door to check the vent temp know we had dogs and my chow mix (Bear) nailed his legs f*cking good, dude started limping then asked for the dogs vac records. I paid for it to get looked at next thing I know my neighbors were being asked if my dogs were out of control/dangerous from a law firm. Nothing ever happened but if they had bitten some else before bang!!!!

Well, yes, but some are more predisposed to viciousness. That doesn't mean all will be, just that many are. It's just like people-some are more predisposed to one character trait or another, e.g. alcoholism, but that doesn't mean you can't control it.
