Question for all My Techie Guru's

ok ive talk to my buddies at the office .. but no one here seems to have the knowledge ..:pop2:
so ill throw out to you guys and see what i get back..
ive built a mini ITX .. with a P8Z77-I Mobo.. and i I7 Ivy Bridge 3770k which come with integrated Intel HD graphics 4000. plus i have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 TI.. with this i have dual 24inch wide screen Dell monitors..
my question is.. should i hook both monitors up to the Nvidia card via DVI or... should i plug one in to my Graphics card and one in on the Mobo and utilize my integrated CPU Chip for the secondary screen?
i only really game on one screen.. so would it benefit from each monitor being split to a different source that it is plugged into or would it be better for the graphics to be handled with the graphics card solely?
ive goggled it and really cant get a solid answer on this...:help:

Personally I like to stick to one video output unless bridging them. My video card at work actually bridges two cards into 1.

The Intel's are OK. But the other card if its similar to my gt 520 that has 2 gb dedicated ram is better to divide. Does it have 2 dvi? Or a dvi and VGA. Mine has those and a HDMI. So I use all 3 haha. What are you needing for performance is the real question to me. Gaming frames and quality or video editing. I use my rig for all that. I am shopping for an I-7 with a Gt new 600 series card, but don't really need it. I might splurge on better monitors instead.

Oh is your computer a dell, I dislike the integrated video chip. Dell is known for downgrading what Intel makes on their video cards to cut cost then when I do windows update on the video card it can cause windows blue screens. Cause its not the same chipset from dell.

No I think just his monitors are. I would say run them both from the nVIDIA. That's a good enough card it should have no problem.

ok this isnt a dell system.. its a build from scratch.. ASUS Mobo.. and my connections i have are 2 x DVI's , and 1 x MiniHdmi on the graphics card alone... then my mobo has 1 full hdmi, 1 DVI, and 1 Display port... i first started with both monitors which are the dells off of the Graphics card.. but the switched one dvi off the MoBo and one DVI off the card(this one is my primary).. so when i game its off the card but when im opening up on both monitors my secondary is the integrated chip from the cpu off the Mobo.. i looking for what would be better .... i really not seeing much differnce

It really depends on what the max supported video resolution is on the video cards.. Typically, onboard graphics are very limited in capability, and probably have lower resolution, or color limits. If that is the case, I would use the GTX.

According to the specs for the GTX - http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-550ti/specifications

You should be able to support 2560x1600 max resolution, with a multi-monitor configuration, and a 32bit color depth.

The best way to decide is simply trial and error.. it wont hurt the video card if you switch between and choose the 1 you like best. (shutdown and alternate dvi inputs, so the display can be redetected.)

I would load a good game on there, there used to be a site you could test frame rates and video ability. Then do as smoke says.

well after trying several combos... and loading up Crysis2 .. i really not seeing any differences.. i tried it in win8 and win7.. i left my computer dual boot.. due to the lack of game support in Win8.. temps might be a few degrees cooler with it separated with the gpu and the cpu.. but nothing huge.. with it being a I7 3770k with the high end integrated chip... i think ill just keep them separated for now unless i see a reason to run them both off of the card.. but im thinking of ditching my dual 22" wides for 1ea 27"...

That's really where you will begin to see your differences.. In my mind, you would notice degradation on your onboard vid card, as your step up the video settings in game, where the GTX, will probably allow you ability to crank up the video setting a bit more.

you may also some improvements within Aero glass effects.

true ..true but im not trying to game on the integrated.. im just wondering if while gaming on the Card on monitor 1 .. the other monitor 2 being connected to the card or the mobo would effect it .. positive or negative way... after a lot of cable swapping and testing i really dont see much diff on monitor 2.. so for right now ill keep monitor 1 on the card and monitor on the mobo.. if anything it does help keep the temp down on the card a degree or two..

BUT BIG NOTE FOR ALL YOU GAMERS!!!! WIN8 is GAMER Friendly!.. i do another post for this..

ok Found my main reasoning for having both monitors connected to my dedicated graphics card!! and not the Integrated graphic on the CPU.. BLUE RAY PLAY BACK... i was watching my Star Wars Blue Ray Disk.. and i need to work on the left screen (which is my dedicated graphic) so as i dragged Power DVD 12 across when it hit the right screen ...HDCP isnt supported on the Integrated screen . wow would have never thought of that...and now i do!!

Good to know. Did the playback just freeze? Or continue playing with a blank screen?

as i dragged it over it went black the just threw a error code stating that HDCP isnt supported on this output ... moved it back to the other screen and it works like a champ! so then checked my drivers for the intel chip .. up to date for the intel hd 4000.. oh well also noticed while play a blue ray.. my temps jumped up quick as if i was playing Crysis2 for hours but just in 10 min of the movie.. wow ill have to see where it peaks after a 2 hour movie..

Interesting. I will probably get a blu-ray player for my desktop when I build it, but I'll keep this in mind.
