Hey guys, ive been thinking about a post earlier asking if anybody played DAYZ. It is a Mod to the game ARMA II and it has a very big community and from videos i have been watching since the Mod came out im interested in trying it out after my next paycheck. So if anyone has this game or wants to try it out with me ill be starting up a group after Feb 1. So let me know on here if ur interested in trying it out with me.

Dayz requires - Arma 2: Combined Operations (Arma II + Operation Arrowhead) version and Arma 2 beta patch.. :) I don't know if you already know :) - anyway hit me up.. I am working the install (steam version) of arma co..

Good shit man, yea i saw it on steam and saw the requirements for DAY Z. But as soon as Feb 1 rolls around ill be buying it and getting it rolling. Been watching videos on it for a long time and decided to go with it and learn the basics before the stand alone comes out.

No standalone YET, It should have been out already, but didn't make it.

Where is the Standalone Release?

I suppose I should start with the question everyone wants to know… where is DayZ Standalone? Obviously, it’s not here. At Eurogamer I said that DayZ had to be out before the end of the year and that’s come and gone. I still stand by that comment, to achieve what we had originally wanted, we did have to be out by the end of the year - and we’ve failed to achieve that.

Put simply, DayZ Standalone isn’t here because we had the chance to go from making a game that was just the mod improved slightly, packaged simply, and sold - to actually redeveloping the engine and making the game the way we all dreamed it could be. This blew any initial plans we had dictated to pieces.

The plan going forward

The plan from here is straightforward. We will be releasing a closed test imminently, during which approximately 500-1000 people will assist in ensuring our architecture is correctly functioning. This closed test will be focused purely on architecture, not the game design. Once we have confirmed fixes for issues arising from the closed test, we will then reschedule an internal date for our public release.

What has been done?

One of the most profound and major architectural changes has had its initial implementation completed, this is the overhaul of the inventory system. In fact, the inventory and item management system was completely removed and rewritten from the ground by Jirka, one of the original engine programmers. The work that has been completed on this groundbreaking, and it going to fundamentally change the DayZ experience.

You scavenge for items now, as individual parts, picking up pieces rather than piles, looking for cans on shelves or under beds. The new system opens the door for durability of items, disease tracking (cholera lingering on clothes a player wears…), batteries, addon components, and much more. If you shoot a player in the head to take his night vision, you will damage the night vision. The changes to this inventory system are huge.

An additional area of change has been to make the inventory system more intuitive along with a key focus on providing visceral feedback on your progress through what inventory you have. The use of drag-and-drop, 3D models rather than 2D pictures, and being able to add items/clothing to your character in 3D in the inventory screen - have all come out of months of design work and research. I’m extremely pleased with the results of Jirka and Hladas, two of the programmers who have been working on implementing the design ideas. I believe the changes to this inventory system will fundamentally change the nature of the DayZ experience.

We are not at the point where we can release meaningful videos or screenshots of the system, but we have now confirmed the base architecture is working in game. Likely, the first that will come out about the inventory system will be during the closed test when people are actually using it.

UI Changes

ArmA community legend kju has been part of the DayZ development for some time, and is now one of your key development members. He has been working with our CEO (Marek) and me to develop the DayZ UI. We have been greatly inspired by Minecraft to make the UI simple and effective, rather than flashy and complex. All our art and code efforts are going into the game, the UI is being designed to be straightforward and functional just like in Minecraft.

Art Progress

A huge amount of work is being completed on art. I’m including some more additional pictures taken from around Chernarus. We have some massive plans now that all interiors have been completed, as rather than moving them on to other projects we are now giving them exciting new things to create.

One of the new artists on the team is a texture artist, and has been working on revising the textures for our new building interiors so they look more post-apocalyptic. Some of these changes can be seen in the work-in-progress pictures I have included.

Map Progress

The lead architect of the revised (and original) Chernarus map, Ivan Buchta, is still imprisoned in Greece on charges of espionage - and is a great loss to the team. Luckily, through letters, Ivan is able to provide some input and insight into the development of the map. Regardless, the continued imprisonment of him and Martin Pezlar has a significant impact on our ability to redevelop Chernarus.

Yeah it lasted one day then they pulled it. I haven't heard anything good about it which is a shame it could be a great game.

Well - from what I heard it was a dayZ ripoff -LOL... Well at least steam heard the community voice. Console ... forget it.. Companies put out crap games, don't even bother to fix it, - the kiddes buy it anyway, which just re-inforces them to put out another crap game.

Yep im still across the pond in Korea, my times would be

weekdays: 6PM-10PM (3AM CST-7AM CST)
weekends: 9 AM-12AM (6PM CST-9AM CST)

Apparently there is a lot of hackers and some issues on which servers are legit or not, also keeping your character from starting over if you leave while alive.. Prob won't matter much for me.. zombie fodder.. I will post some of the stuff I have found out ... I need to get some screen shots ... after work..

I am having this persistent issue where my computer just gets stuck on grey-screen mode and I have to restart...pissing me off...happens every time I look at the map

Good shit guys, like i said, ill be getting the game next week and download the mod as well and start playing. As to ur response MK, DAYZ has been plagued with lots of Hackers (Mostly kids) and there are servers that are filled with nothing but hackers. I think if u find a server that u like MK we should all form up on that server and have some fun together.

Appears to me that a lot of people are not playing on the public servers. If a public is used and in the hive you can bounce to different servers. Not in the hive, you will lose your place and start over. I was in a public server there were only 3 people and did not get bothered. My thoughts are to at least start out with the game, for what it's worth and have not to worry much about bandits.

The main thing to keep from losing your place is to find a server and stick with it . Might want to take a look a private servers and see what the deal is to avoid the dumb asses. More reading..

I had it over a year and played on and off.. Choppers are great.. and can do coop.. We should jump on this as well.. of course I stop playing it and then pick it up and go in dumbass mode forget all the fucking controls. One thing you can create your own missions all kinds of shit.

I would go into game options and turn off anti-aliasing, just to see if that helps and or turn the settings to the lowest just to see if it goes away. This might be an GPU issue. Seems there was an update for AMD GPU drivers on the 17th. That may help as well.

Ok so I'm a total computer noob. I don't know if I'm doing this right. I went to the link MK said to do FIRST, the Beta download. So I downloaded the top left green option (seen here)

.....and my screen just froze again playing DeathMatch on Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, this time it turned Green instead of Grey. I updated the drivers to the new 13.1 version, turned off the anti-aliasing and set my graphics to normal instead of high.... Frustration abounds....

In steam settings - make sure this is not checked ...

You may completely disable Game Overlay by going to Steam’s Steam > Settings menu and selecting the In-Game tab. Then uncheck the Enable Steam Community In-Game checkbox.

Steel I looked up in forums for Arma II and if ur running beta this is common as their known issues. For all mods download dayz commander very efficient. And run only regular arma2 when playing DAYz.

Right now .. I believe that Steel has issues with Arma and he has not even attempted to run install the beta.

Even dayz commander can the beta release. So the mod won't invoke when you connect to a server not on the same beta build or mod build. If you not on the same beta as the server or release - you can connect to server but dayz is not going to run. Note: in dayz commander server show what beta they are on. In order for the game to function Mod version and beta build need to match.
dayz requires the beta. I don't get what you saying.. sorry..

I have used playwithsix and DZC note the beta builds.

Thanks for he advice guys. Right now, I don't even have the DayZ mod cause I can't figure out how to do it. I don't understand all the mumbo jumbo. My screen is freezing up when I just play Arma2 alone. It's an issue I've had for awhile, I thought the driver update fixed it but it didn't. I wanted to go the Play withSix route like MK did but when I tried downloading it apparently I downloaded something else called 7Zip? Some shit like that, anyway I gave up and went to bed lol

7zip -- LOL .. you clicked on a ad. you got to watch that shit.

Don't do anything with the mod as you need to get arma working.. Steam sometimes interferes with games. You check that steam option.

Also look in your user directory C:\Users\user\AppData\Local for arma RPT logs. that might give some indication of what is going on. note user would be your account on your box..

Did you install the beta ?

do other games work? ...

One thing to note I think since you are overseas.. try some servers. I had been on several private servers (not on the main hive) which actually gave you weapons to start. The main concern is that is your ping times. If your ping times are excessive- you will get booted.

also playsix or dayz commander set the filter for "Hide Wrong Arma version" and "Hide wrong mod version" in playsix that is in the settings.

Some of the servers are running different betas and mod versions.

Tried finding that server on withSIX and couldnt find it, ull have to show me where to find that server. But on other news i played some Wasteland with Hero and some DAYZ with some Randoms and i loved every minute of it. In DAYZ i was able to snag an AH-64 which by the way im a extremely good pilot lol. Let me know when u guys wanna do a run.

or another thought - just get on vent if you online.. I can check

or for times - you can set up additional clocks in Win7 - in the VFS I was in, most of them were in europe.. so everthing was UTC. Might make time easier.. I am old and get confused easily... LOL

yea the one i was on was a U.S. Server, i had a decent ping at like 200ms. So it ran pretty damn good. Ill let u pick man as i can work out anything that is either morning or night for u. No afternoon lol.

I only have access to vent (in the sticky) in this forum. I don't know exactly what time as its depends when I GTFU. :). Usually @ 4:00 local but it varies...

We need to setup a date and time this weekend for some DAYZ fun. Now i have a 3 day weekend this weekend and ill be one Friday Night to Monday Night. Give me a time u guys can make it and we will meet up on Vent or TS3 and we will do some run in DAYZ. Now the choice is what map shall we go to. Regular DAYZ, Islandu, Tavina, Takistan, or Falluja. Take ur pick and we shall ride lol.

It's going to take me a few, I find that I need a couple upgrades to the PC. Working on it :-)
