Yep, you read right. With the major "alternate history" DLC set to drop this month and wrap up by June-ish, announcements have come down the pipe letting us know AC 4 is around the corner.
Taking place in a new setting, and new timeframe, we will also be seeing a new protagonist. And as 3 is the wrapup of Desmond, that means we'll be in someone else's head as well. Bets being laid now for Asian-centric.
So what's this mean for 3, Conner, and the Revolution? Well, remember that this team started working around the same time Revelations started work. Which means Assassin's Creed is going more towards CoD style....multiple teams working on multiple games.....which means we're not necessarily done with Conner. Nor is the current DLC necessarily the only DLC. We shall have to wait and see there.
Anyway, here's one of many articles covering the Facebook announcement.

Well, he's possible. Then there's the 6 past assassin's from AC2. Maybe not playing as them, but they obviously created branches of the Order.
Another thing I was thinking about, was the English Templar influence shown in 3... possibly being countered by French Assassins? Joan of Arc? Cardinal Richelieu? Assassin Muskateers? Would the Napoleanic wars that sparked off years afterwards not be enough of a time-change? Or maybe Robin Hood was an Assassin?
Only time will tell, and they have centuries to pick and choose from.

Could be forshadowing a future possibility. Probably not anything in the near future though. For all we know, we could be playing as Clay. Or.....as a Templar.

It's kind of amazing what you have when you don't even realize it. Go back up and look at that picture of the assassin's again. You've got Conner, center stage as the Assassin of AC3. To his [FONT=arial]left is [COLOR=#333333]Aveline de Grandpré, the protagonist of Liberations. To his right, you have Ezio and then Altair from AC2 and 1, respectively. But that leaves the Assassin on the far right, the one sporting the more traditional Assassin robes with a rifle on his shoulder and the red sash. Hint of a mustache. He doesn't fit with any game released by Ubisoft yet.
While a couple of people insist he's a Russian, the mustache and sash has a lot of fans thinking French, or Pirate. Given Ezio was 16th century, and Conner is smack in the 18th....and he's got a gun, I'm going to hazard a guess of 17th century....and the Franco-Spanish War or Thirty Years' War. Basically, smack dab in the middle of The Three Muskateers.

That's because he is the Russian, Nikolai Orelov. The reason he doesn't fit with any game Ubisoft has released is because he's the main character of the Assassins Creed comic series that predates AC3. Seen here:

So apparently the new game will possibly be out around March 14, 2014....and it looks like Ubi may be getting ready to give us some details. A clandestine invite to various media outlets results in a meeting on Feb. 27th. What's going to happen? What will they tell us? We must know!!

All this, and I don't remember the Assassins Order being some anarchist movement who would be in to creating a "lawless republic." Unless they're using a different definition to lawless.

Ok I can see that, using the host as the linking factor, but this new Assassin is a Kenway. So he's obviously a relative of Connor and still a descendant of Desmond. I
I never really cared for Desmond's story, I liked running around in the past as a badass assassin. I wouldn't mind an AC set solely in the past but I know the Desmond present day storyline is to engrained in the franchise for them to just drop it.

Well, the present day storylines are more to tie the past characters together and explain why you're going back in time. Ubisoft announced that Des was done.

I know that's why I said present day, I haven't really checked it out but I assumed it would be the same storyline with Juno having escaped just with a new protagonist reliving his ancestors memories for whatever purpose. I just think with the great historical settings for the games it would be cool to play an AC that would solely be played in the past without anybody using the animus.

I agree it'd be fun, but after 5 games it'd be kind of..... detached? Disconnected? It'd be missing something. I think the closest we'd see would be something like Revelations.

Yeah, I absolutely maintain that naval combat was thr greatest minigame to come out of the entire franchise. I'm assuming it'll be an extension of 3's....but am wondering if they'll be able to include open-world ship combat. Basically, the Frontier becomes an ocean, and you can come across patrols, or convoys, that you can attack for profit. Or that attack you.

Here comes the attack of the stupids:
PETA Condemns Assassin’s Creed 4’s Whaling as “Disgraceful”
Animal rights group slams Ubisoft’s incoming seafarer.
by Luke Reilly MARCH 5, 2013
Animal rights group PETA has hit out at the supposed depiction of whaling in Ubisoft’s recently-announced Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
“Whaling – that is, shooting whales with harpoons and leaving them to struggle for an hour or more before they die or are hacked apart while they are still alive – may seem like something out of the history books, but this bloody industry still goes on today in the face of international condemnation, and it’s disgraceful for any game to glorify it,” reads a statement provided to VentureBeat.
“PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals – not games that promote hurting and killing them.”
PETA has a history of capitalising on video games to increase awareness for animal rights and have attacked titles including Super Meat Boy and Call of Duty: World at War in the past. PETA has also targeted both Mario and Cooking Mama.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, set prior to the American Revolution, takes place in the earlier half of the 18th Century. Throughout the 1700s whaling exploded in the American colonies and quickly became a highly-lucrative industry.

I don't remember them raising hell about the hunting in AC3. Regardless though, I really doubt the whaling in AC4 will consist of torturing the whale for hours, or hacking it in to pieces.

nope hes Conors Grandfather... the father of Haytham.. and yes Haytham was trained as a assassin but switch to the templars
from whats out there it says
Edward Kenway (unknown - 1735) was a British privateer, pirate, and member of the Assassin Order. He was the father of Haytham Kenway, the first Grand Master of the Templar Order's Colonial Rite, and the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton; through this line, he was also an ancestor of Desmond Miles.
and Haytham:
Haytham E. Kenway (1725 - 1781) was the first Grand Master of the Templar Order's Colonial Rite, reigning from 1754 until his death.
Born to the Assassin Edward Kenway, Haytham was converted to the Templar cause early on by Reginald Birch. After being sent to America to locate a suspected First Civilization storehouse, Haytham remained and established a permanent Templar presence in the British colonies. Later on, he unknowingly sired a son with the Kanien'kehá:ka woman Kanieht*:io, whom he had met in his original quest for the storehouse. As such, he was an ancestor to Desmond Miles.

That really doesn't make sense. 4 will be the 6th game, and every one devolves straight to Altair. He can't be a direct descendant of every one of them. Which is the only way that comparison is remotely meaningful.
The other problem is that there are 7 statues, not 6. So even if he meant "series" instead of "games" it's still wonky.

Ubisoft posted some Q&A from lead writer Darby McDevitt that was conducted yesterday via Twitter:
@Solidskila Are the cluster and glyph puzzles returning?
In a way… there are now various hacking games that reveal tons of secret Abstergo content. Become a modern day pirate!
@DaCenterOfEarth will the present day story be a major part of the game?
There are a “handful” of missions you are required to play, and they have a clear story arc…
@DEADLYxASSAS51N will Clay (subject 16) make his return in AC4 and if yes in what way?
No, but Subject 17 may… in a roundabout way.
@AccessTheAnimus Can you tell us more about the audio drama set in the present that you talked about during the panel at SDCC?
Relayed through a series of “found tapes”, it tells the story of a few key Abstergo Ind employees from 1980-81.
@matman_1990 what country or location will the present day be set in & which characters will be in the present day?
Lovely Montreal, Quebec, actually… featuring a host of new characters, and a few old ones.
@HallOfGame11 Is our character aware the assassins and templars present existence? And do they learn much about Juno?
Yes, we will slowly reveal the existence of Assassins, Templars, and…
@inyourface47 How does the character in present day get introduced to Abstergo?
You are the main character, and you are introduced to Abstergo by being hired to work there.
@_2SHANEZ__ Will there be open combat in present day? Can you free run in 1st person?
No combat in the present day, no. It’s all about exploring, eavesdropping, and hacking. Modern day pirate stuff.
@MusicMartijn Will we see what happened to the world? Did Juno change it?
No, the world looks the same… Juno is a rogue A.I. and does not have enough strength to overtake the world yet…YET.
@Kinimod_H Does Desmond have any connection with this main character?
You are the main character. Do you have any Miles’s in your family tree?
@Mozzla94 will we see people from previous Ac games in Ac4 like desmond father?
@spartansw0rd Will you be able to explore Abstergo?
Absolutely. You’d be a fool not to… there’s so much amazing content in the present.
@SultanRj Can We Get Out Of The Animus Like The Previous Games ?
Yes, you can exit your Animus at any time and explore the Abstergo Entertainment offices.
@bfett9 #AskACDarby will we explore more of Abstergo backstory and their purpose & drive? Will we See the other side of the story?
Absolutely. A taste if you just play the main story, and an entire buffet if you explore everywhere.
@MrXBob What about Desmond’s dad? And the other present day characters? Is that whole plot thread just… gone??
Previous characters will return, and the story is ongoing, but from a different perspective now.
@KareemTD What happened with Desmond ??
You’ll see… might want to cover your ears though.
@bfett9 #askacdarby will this game be mainly set from Abstergo’s point of view?
No, it’s from your point of view. You work for Abstergo, but you may like Assassins better. Or neither.
@elliott214 I’m guessing you’ll get to make a choice about who you join in the present?
Not a literal “press X to choose sides”. It will just present two sides of a conflict.
@adamk678 Will there be dialogue options/ conversations in present day?
No… because YOU are the protagonist, we didn’t want to put words into your mouth.
@MSUNREAL51 so what you’re saying is that we have the choice to work as an assassin or a Templar?
Neither. You work as you. Most people at Abstergo Entertainment are not Templars. But it is owned by Templars.
@KamalElgamel13 will the new character have a relation to Desmond?
No, Abstergo’s tech has improved. They have genetic memory cloud servers that allow anyone to dive into another’s memories.
@Hollywood397 please tell me nothing awful is done to Desmond’s body…
I could say that, but it wouldn’t make it true.
@SigfredoME Will you have a chance to see the owners of Abstergo entertainment?
A few of the bigwigs, yes.

^ agreed but is it sad that I keep thinking that sub 17 was Desmond? Plus I feel like all the guys asking about Juno and Desmond because to me they left it way to open at the end of 3 just like they did with revelations because I'm still wondering what ezio told Desmond lol

Sub 17 was Desmond. I'm betting that he's locked in the system somehow, similar to how 16 did.

Wouldn't surprise me but would kinda piss me off to the fact that he needs to explain the end of 3

End of three, he sacrified himself to save the world, and unleashed Juno to take her bitchitude out on humanity.

But how would he be stuck in the animus like 16 if he wasn't in the animus because he sent his dad and the other 2 out unless they make it to where they put him back on the animus after releasing the bitch hmmm now my brain hurts lol

It'll be something to do with him holding the piece of Eden, and Juno's system coding.

It wouldn't have mattered either way, humanity destroys itself in the other option anyway...

Desmond would have helped lead the survivors to rebuild. After billions were killed and life as we know it ended. He chose the other path.

Not really, because that didn't happen. That would have happened had he not chosen to sacrifice himself.

Yea, but I thought after Desmond "rebuilt" society, religious zealots twisted his doctrine and ideals after he died, creating a totalitarian society in which they ruled over humanity, ending in a war that kills everybody....am I wrong?
