An old friend from high school had this link up on his Facebook page. He thinks it's reason number three. I'd like to hear from our resident expert on this one.

According to the EU, #3 is right. He shaved time off flying closer to the black hole. But from what I've heard, Lucas made a mistake, not knowing what a parsec was, and this was the EU retcon for it. Later on, IIRC, Jaina Solo actually beat his record and so he had to go back and shave off even more distance.

Little bits of 2 and 3.

In the script of Episode 4, it calls out for Alec Guinness to react to "Solo's stupid attempt to impress them with obvious misinformation."

Later though, since this was rather poorly portrayed in the movie, the EU rectified the matter by solidifying the distance of the Kessel Run, and the fact that faster ships could make the run in a shorter distance by getting closer to the Maw without being sucked in by it's gravity fields.

Lucas also confirmed the distance rather than time bit in the special edition DVD release, in Episode 4 commentary, stating that it was due to the Falcon's navigational computer being able to calculate a faster course.



Also, BoShek was the one who supposedly beat Han Solo, and was beaten by Solo and Luke. Jaina beat the record for Lando's Folly.

I knew she did Lando's Folly but I thought she also did the Kessel Run. But it's been awhile since I read that book. Which one is it in?

Can't remember off the top of my head. I didn't like her books that much.

You said Jaina set a record on the Kessel run. I said it was Lando's Folly, and that I don't know of any reference to her running Kessel.

Right, and then I asked where the reference to BoShek beating Han's original record was and you said:

Where I thought you were still talking about Jaina. Boshak was in Tales, and some comics.
