With the Alpha literally right around the corner, was anyone planning on giving it a shot? I haven't done the ARMA thing yet, but I've always been intrigued by it, and I want to try it this time around.

Alpha starts Wednesday, Beta is "Q2" and release should be "Q3". That's the plan anyway. I'd be surprised if there weren't release delays, as that's usually par for the course with games these days. I might purchase the Alpha or Digital Deluxe Edition, so if I did, this would be applicable:


Last but not least, Bohemia Interactive also intends to release a free, limited version of the Alpha, named Arma 3 Alpha Lite. The Alpha Lite will be available one week after the initial Alpha release, on Thursday March 14th, and does not include a multiplayer component and modding support. Access to the Alpha Lite is invite-only and can be obtained from people who have purchased the Arma 3 Alpha. Invites will also be randomly distributed via the Arma 3 social channels and as giveaways by selected media outlets. The Arma 3 Alpha Lite expires on June 15, does not provide access to the Arma 3 Beta and does not include a copy of the final game.

If you get an invite to the Arma 3 Alpha Lite, you get 1 invite. I you buy any of the editions that get access, you have 3 invites. So theoretically, you could chain invites to get almost anyone who wanted one an invite.

I'd probably be getting DDE or SE if I do (I have to look a lot harder at the franchise and the proposed content for this game first). Three invites isn't bad. I don't even know a single person that plays ARMA in any form except maybe DayZ, but they all quit because of the hax. So if I do get it, I should have invites available. Will post if I do.

They have made some improvements with some of flight models and still tweaking. With a joystick its not so bad. Since this is beta now, there are a few more choppers. Geez I almost 240 hours in this. This goes released on the September 12, 2013.

@SSG BRETADO; I added you on Steam and sent you an invite to our Steam Group. It is usually pretty quiet in the group, but maybe we can all wake it up. I grabbed the Arma2 Anniversary edition on the holiday sale as on of their daily deals. I got it for $9.99. I was thinking about going ahead and getting Arma3 while it was on sale, but decided to wait.

As @MARDIGRA21; stated, learning curve on Arma is steep. I did play quite a bit of the original Arma, very little Arma 2, and only the single player BETA for Arma 3.

I tried to get into it briefly, but it wasn't just a pick-up-and-go type of playing when I tried it out. There were a lot of mods to install (good mods, worth the install but took a while and took up a ton more space than I expected). Unfortunately my schedule changed shortly thereafter and I never got back on that horse, and it's a hard horse to get back on if you were never solidly on it in the first place.

I'd be willing to hop back into it but pretty sure MK-82 or someone would have to show me the ropes again.

Probably because you never logged into Humble Bundle. Like Sanders said, they don't force you to create one (but as I just figured out, it makes it soooooo much easier because instead of copying the keys, you can just click to redeem).

Heh.. I have not touched the game in the past 13 months. Had 790 hours. Ran a dedicated server for old folks (babysitter service :D) (talk about rage quitters - you would think people in their 40's and 50's would not act so juvenile- ha! ha!) for about 6 months to avoid the Hitler youth.

Yes, this game can be frustrating. I wonder how the updates have been for vanilla (no mods). I quit this shit cause you had to run mods to really make it playable and just have basic features. There were at the time a lot of good mods, but majority was shitty ones you had to debug and fix the shit.

Then you have the aspect especially when running a server, is when people have mods activated and every one else didn't which spammed the server with errors bringing FPS to a crawl.. and every other combination you can think as some mods require mission edits which causes more pain.. I could probably spend a couple of hours on here bitching about it. My nickname for A3 was Pain in the Ass 3.
It usually took an hour just to get people sorted.

Now I do like modding, Custom mission building etc which is a good thing about Arma. At the same time my thought - Fuck you BIS, at least make a basic game that you don't have to butcher with hacks, tweaks ( hours of tweaking and testing ) just to make it playable. Don't charge people for a game that is obviously not finished - and just let community fix it for us for free. Most of the mods are poorly written by wannabes or butchered ports from Arma 2.

I would like to fire up the game and I could find some missions on Steam Workshop do download. We could have a go. With all the past downfalls when things were working good -- this game can be a lot of fun. I would recommend to start with no mods. Hopefully the AI are now balanced with humans. I will need to brush up myself...

Really need a time set advance. I don't have much free time during the week, since they sent everyone packing at work last October.

Weekends are good but would like a arranged time in advance if that is not to much to ask..

What was confusing? Controls can be overwhelming at the start, as well if your leading AI. Gameplay is supposed to be confusing as your in the fog of war. Probably why a lot of people don't play for long or RAGE QUIT. They don't get it... :) The folks I used to play with, this one guy would always rage quit or just silently quit during a firefight LOL...


To be honest, there is no bad and there are no good players. If your having trouble with the controls that is experience and you can remap things to your liking. Don't worry about being bad or good as there is no such thing especially with this game. Just a little patience and experience. I do find the default campaigns kind of MEH... The game is much better with real people and if you complete a mission without getting your ass handed to you is good thing, but try not to measure things good/bad or set expectations. I know people have done this and just end up being frustrated, including myself.

client

Note- some mods are require mission edits

Some mods especially server-client or mission edited mods will cause lag to do errors spaming the logs, if everyone does not have the same mod...

With all the difficulties and my internet crashing.. It was great fun..


Myself and Rage played a different mission with a 2 slot sniper team. Mission had good intent but seemed not designed properly or missing considerations as it appeared some triggers were missed.. Respawn did not work correctly for Rage but the bug avoided the endless humping after being killed in action.. The first mission did not have respawn, when your dead your dead.. Of course mission builders do this to avoid run and gun and impose penalty to the squad which is more realistic.. Anyway revive would be a better consideration. I will look for missions or I can edit worthy missions for this..

Great fun.. I have not played in a year, was fun to jump into this again.

Respawn did not work correctly for Rage but the bug avoided the endless humping after being killed in action.

Shit was HILARIOUS. A couple times we ended up neck deep in shit (I partially blame the fact that we didn't get the scopes we were supposed to), and were promptly mowed down. No biggie right? Well not so fast. It respawned me immediately every time I died. Took me a bit to figure it out, but this meant I had to respawn and try to run away or get to cover. Every time I died, I just respawned in the same place facing the same direction. Keep in mind it's ArmA, not CoD, so I was dropped quick. So for me it was run and die and run and die until safe. This meant there were a few ammo dumps where there were 10-20 of my bodies laying around on top of each other, the first choke point outside the terminal had a trail of bodies from where I eventually got away.... I wish I would have been capturing at that point. Glad you got the dump from where I got stuck in that room of death.

I did get a bit of capture but for some reason I wasn't running it when we had the good stuff going, like when we were on foot in the tank mission or for most of the stuff we did after Sam left. I'll get more next time. I did get the invincible bunny though. Dude was immune to tank shells.

Yeah anything but Steam. Not a fan of Steam voice chat. Maybe we can look into getting the Vent server back up and running (sub)? Not sure how many PC guys we have, but the bill would hurt a lot less if we were able to split it between a few of us. A smaller server isn't all that expensive AFAIK. We could also entertain the idea of using another platform if desired (e.g. TS, etc...).

I can't say Saturday is a GO for sure at this point but if my schedule stays as-is, I'll be on. I should know more as the week progresses.

With all the difficulties and my internet crashing.. It was great fun..


Myself and Rage played a different mission with a 2 slot sniper team. Mission had good intent but seemed not designed properly or missing considerations as it appeared some triggers were missed.. Respawn did not work correctly for Rage but the bug avoided the endless humping after being killed in action.. The first mission did not have respawn, when your dead your dead.. Of course mission builders do this to avoid run and gun and impose penalty to the squad which is more realistic.. Anyway revive would be a better consideration. I will look for missions or I can edit worthy missions for this..

Great fun.. I have not played in a year, was fun to jump into this again.

Still working on this mission.. I was not a great mission builder before as I got frustrated with it. Seems there have been a lot of improvements since I last messed with this. The underlying aspect of getting things to work is still there.. :) Most things don't work the same when building a mission for single player vs multi-player. Some things which you would think would be simple such as trigger height (no option when placing a trigger), you have to place conditionals. Arrg.. flashbacks are coming back..

To avoid aircraft on your side from setting off a trigger..

Anyway rage got the mission I was able to get to him, then thunderstorm power glitch, the modem freaked out... I had to bounce it a couple of times. When I got back on TS he had bailed (I would have said screw it too...:frusty: )

Maybe its fixed it LOL.. I can put it in bridge mode and just use my other router and see if that does anything..

I will get this sorted before Sat for sure. Last night sucked for sure.

Ok .. Putting the modem in bridge mode apparently is the fix or the crazy crap with the power. Bridge mode will remove the modem from the picture anyway..

I did a de-install and reinstall of Arma and removed my profile and appdata to to make sure I had a clean install. There was a bunch of cached stuff from over a year ago. Plus I don't remember where stuff goes when your using the editor based on export MP vs SP.. and relation when you launch MP and the color scheme of the files. Copy this mission off and erase every thing.. :)

I fixed some of the stuff noted yesterday.. but I will mix it up so its everything in not in the same place as far as the opposing force.. Probably will go ahead and add arty as another support option for next week.. We can play something else as well ..


At least the respawn worked .. :)
