Do we need military funerals? No, but neither do we need the Department of Education, Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Housing and Urban Development, or a dozen other programs. Military funerals are a final gesture of thanks to those who may not have done "something heroic", but were at least willing to put their lives on the line, even if it did not ultimately come to that. When the duplicated programs, welfare state programs, and multi-million dollar 'studies' are gone, come back and talk about it. I suspect then we'll have more than enough money to bury those who have done far more for this country than idiots like you.

I'm a fair man. But damn, that's a low blow. I serve on a funeral detail for veterans in my area (Jersey, Penn, Conn, New York) and I mean the majority of the funerals I attend and participate in aren't for veterans that served 20 years. Usually they are WWII Vets that served their time and got out. But they deserve at least the military honors granted to every soldier. Every war is serious shit. My brother only did 6 years, but he was deployed 3 out of those 6. Not every soldier will be a lifer. It's not every soldier's destiny. But I don't know. I'm pretty upset about this. Kinda makes me wanna drag him to the sandbox so he can see what soldiers/marines/airmen/sailors do every day while he writes in his little column. Then he can judge whether or not we deserver a flag draped over our coffin and a simple folding ceremony and Taps playthrough by a bugler.

I agree, all Vets are Heroes....
Like DJTetsui, I am at military funerals quite frequently (unfortunately). When they start putting a price to this, it is very sad.
I couldn't beleive it but, the reporting on this smuck that wrote the article, states he is a (former) Marine and Vietnam Vet. Now the idiot journalists feel they have the credence to take the same stand.

There are some points made that are valid. Such as the use of digital buglers etc. I think stuff like that takes away from the funeral. Cheapens it almost. We all understand a military funeral is a commitment but I would gladly get in service dress to do my part for any fellow military member. It is one of those things that isn't harming anyone and is constantly being attacked... either by liberals or WBB... military funerals provide some closure for those military families and friends. I am part of a group who feel that the service provided aren't enough for our fallen men and women.
