NETGEAR 1port Powerline Adapter Kit

So I bought this Powerline Adapter Kit from Best Buy yesterday. Its supposed to run a direct connection from your router with full speed to your console through your house power line line. Thus eliminating the use of an Ethernet cable and the use of WiFi.

How it works: There are two adapters (like the photo below). Both plug directly into the nearest outlet in your house. So if your router is upstairs and your console is downstairs, you can have one adapter upstairs and the other downstairs. Here's the cool part. Once you have paired the two and they are secure, you now have a direct connection through the power lines that run through your house. Pretty neat huh. So instead of running an 25 or 50 ft. Ethernet cable from your router to your console. You can buy this kit and it will eliminate the Ethernet cable. Another cool thing is, you won't have to use WiFi either. You can use this kit to get a direct hardline connection without loosing speed. I paid $115 for the kit.

How I know it works. I was able to pull the IP address and gateway number from my XBOX when I ran a network config. I'll give you guys more info when I get the internet hooked up today.

Yeah they run at 54 mb speed. I have used them before. It originally started out as phone line extenders and graduated t these. Life savers for gamers in my opinion.

Yep. Power lines can be used for a lot of things. Of course, we just wired our house with Cat 5, so it doesn't make much difference for me.

Update: Works and its just like having my console wired directly to the router. I recommend this to everyone who doesn't like using long Ethernet cables running around the house, or is having issues using wifi with their pc, console, or whatever your using

Yea I've been using the D-Link Powerline AV 500 series throughout my house for almost a year now. They are still only as good as the Internet in your house tho and my Internet sucks. But they are supposed to handle high stream loads so when/if better Internet becomes avail anytime soon. Ill be ready.

The surge protector will cancel out the high level frequency. They have a pass thru plug so you can plug in the surge protector on the outside of the adapter

I've got some funky power setups, since I'm too lazy to move the plugs around. No biggie though. Might have to check these out.

My house is a rental and we have house level surge protection . I need to move my stuff around seems I accumulate so much. The movies I am ripping for the kids tablets to all the games I am playing I forget to put stuff away.

Haven't tried nor do I have any room on the power stirp I have available. Currently mine is plugged directly into the wall socket behind my entertainment system. I'll take a photo to show what it looks like

Dude, that's awesome.

I paid 115 for mine but that was cause I bought it at one the most expensive places out on the market...Best Buy lol.

They are awesome to use and are probably the best thing I could have bought when it comes to eliminating a long ass cat-5 cable
