In relatively big news, Disney cut LucasArts. While big news, its not really unexpected....as LA has been floundering for a while now.

In other news, GI throws out a wishlist for LucasArts IP. The one I like best involves Battlefront....and Dice. I'd play that game.

Really disappointed to see all the games they were working on cut. 1313 and First Assault were looking great, and "Version 2" was rumored to become battlefront 3 after they tested the waters with first assault. Disney claims there is a possibility they will outsource the games but LA employees say is highly unlikely to happen and consider the games all but lost.

From what I've read the past few days the mid level and some high level LA employees were the ones saying it isn't likely whereas the Disney reps are saying maybe. Don't get me wrong though, I'd really like to see these games come through, I just don't want to get my hopes up just yet

Last week, Disney shut down LucasArts. Although LucasFilm says they could license out games like Star Wars 1313 or First Assault to be finished by other developers, I’ve talked to three sources who don’t think that’s likely.
“Disney says they're shopping [First Assault] around to other outlets to see if they want to finish it, but we don't think that's gonna happen,” a source said.


Publicly, Disney is saying their current games could be licensed out to a different publisher or developer, but according to our source, that's unlikely. Our source says Lucas has pursued the option for "one or both games," but nothing happened. "With the teams now basically being dispersed I think both games are effectively dead forever


A second source also told Kotaku this afternoon that the chances of Lucas licensing out 1313 are very slim. The odds are "effectively zero"


Although LucasFilm has said that 1313 and the studio's other cancelled game, Star Wars: First Assault, could be licensed out to other developers, I've been told by multiple sources that chances are very slim. Development on the game had been on hold since last fall, as we reported in February.

"They ended up with movie tech that wouldn't fit in a game, and game tech that wouldn't fit in a movie," a source told me. "1313 was always in danger of not being made."

Yep that's what I meant. Battlefront 2 was awesome, and so was Battlefield 3.

Since '05? Nothing.

They've got some pinball games in their portfolio, and a handful of racing games, but that's about it.

It's kind of a double-edged sword. Battlefront is basically BF:2 Star Wars. So Battlefront 3 would most likely end up as a re-skinned Battlefield. Which is both good and bad.

Ultimately, I don't see EA letting them build what would be a near-exact duplicate competitive game. Especially after their lackluster attempts with MoH.
