Activision has offered up a first proper look at its new TMNT game, based on the current Nickelodeon cartoon and due out as a download this summer.
The Turtles have had a complex history in gaming, with the usual low rent tie-ins matched by other games of unusually high quality. Although it’s still probably Konami’s 1989 coin-op which is the most fondly remembered.
We don’t know where Activision’s new game is going to stand in comparison to that but the trailer below looks fairly promising. Out Of The Shadows is being developed by Red Fly Studio, who’s greatest claim to fame seems to be Wii ports of games like Ghostbusters, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, and Thor: God Of Thunder.
That’s not terribly encouraging, but the graphics seem pretty good for a download and the combat appears fairly involved, in a Batman: Arkham City kind of a way.
The trailer focuses on Michelangelo (the orange one, with the nunchucks), who’s described as having, ‘by far the highest attack speed of any of his Turtle brethren, but also the lowest single target damage rating, standing in stark contrast to the more balanced stats of Leonardo.’
‘Mikey relies on his ability to evade damage and quickly build up combos and special moves to take down foes before they can return the favor,’ claims the PR blurb.
Although you can’t see it in the trailer the game will feature four-player co-op battles, which certainly sounds promising. It’ll be released on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Steam.
The game has nothing to do with the live action Michael Bay film and it’s unclear if Activision has the licence, or the willingness, to make a game based on that.
