Does anyone out there own a surface? I'm looking at getting a new laptop or ultra book. I'm typically a Mac user...using my iPad right now. The problem is that I need many PC only apps for my school work and will need it to be portable. I'm not looking for a gaming machine, so it doesn't have to be that high end, but I'm not looking for a POS either. So, I was thinking of the surface pro. I could go the mac route and use parallels with windows 7, but then I have to spend even more money, so I think the PC route is the way to go. Appreciate any insight any one has, thanks gang!

I don't personally have one but my buddy does. He is on deployment but I will shoot him an e-mail and ask what he thinks of it. May take a day or two to get a response. Email on submarines is like taking the Pony Express. If you have any specific questions let me know

I appreciate that, I don't have anything specific just want an honest opinion on the thing. I need portability and the ability to run actual full applications. Thats my only complaint with my iPad...I have their version of word, excel, and powerpoint, which aren't bad....just if you convert them to microsoft files they don't always convert properly. Thanks again

Yea that is the one thing I hate about Pages and Numbers. They are good but no where near Word and Excel. That's why I have MS office on my MacBook and haven't had a problem in that regard.

My problem is a lot of the statistical and research programs I need are only PC, and like I said I can buy a new MacBook and then parallels, and then a copy of windows...sigh

Yea that gets expensive quick though. I don't know if they do the same for you guys but the Navy gives us a free copy (maybe 10 bucks but definitely not more) of MS Office for Mac or PC through a website. I have the info at work and will post it here Monday after I sift through my e-mail. I know I saved it and got MS Office 13 for my wife's PC.

Yeah you can do a search for Microsoft home use program....you just need to verify it with a .gov email or whatever company participates
