We had a couple of bad tornadoes in some rural areas in Oklahoma yesterday. And today, an hour ago, a huge tornado tore through the middle of the Oklahoma City metro area. Massive devastation. Pretty much the same track as our May 3, 1999 tornado which was the biggest tornado on record in the world. It's bad. An elementary school took a direct hit.

My family and friends are good, although I was worried for a while. This tornado passed 4 miles south of my wife's work. Just heard on the news that all of the kids in that school are accounted for. No fatalities and only a couple of minor injuries.

I don't know of any other members here. Just found out my brother-in-law took shelter in a building that was hit. He's ok and now helping with the recovery. Can't do much else. His truck was buried in debris.

Just heard there was a second elementary school hit. This one my wife's cousins daughter goes to. She got concerned by the weather and had pulled her out of school a half hour before the tornado hit. But, they were almost hit in their home. The tornado missed them by one block. Damn.

So glad my wife's cousin got her daughter out of school. They are now reporting there may be over 24 casualties at the elementary school. It is one of the pictures posted earlier. The tornado hit 15 minutes before the school let out for the day.

Good to hear you are ok, Brother (RogueScot). I watched on FOX News most of the night. FOX dropped the national political format and covered this story exclusively until the early hours.....
Looks like a slow moving system and more bad weather is predicted today. Keep an eye to the sky.
I have been through a few of these when I lived in Omaha (and once in Honduras.... on.... business).

They are expecting to find another 40-50 bodies today...half children...our prayers and thoughts go out to all of those families affected by this disaster. Fortunately for me those who I know stationed near there are all safe and sound....lets keep these people in our thoughts today gang

I just watched an interview of an old lady doing an interview and telling the reporter what she went through and what she lost.

At the tail end of the interview the reporter said, "its a dog!"

Literally as the old lady was giving the reporter an interview, she was two feet from her dog that she said she lost in the rubble.

The old lady said that god had answered not one of her prayers but two.

I give you people prop's for living out there in tornado country.

I tell you what.

I love the shit out of my dog. Though he can be a dickhead, he's my dickhead lol.

I seriously would be devastated if my dog was gone because of a tornado.

I'm happy as hell for the lady. I'm sure the only thing that keeps her happy while she's at home is her dog.

Such a terrible thing. Feel so sad for all the victims families, can't even imagine loosing a child. I would be a mess.

There's been a positive development with the death toll. Before they got a good command post set up, they were getting the count from two places and they had doubled the numbers. The death toll dropped from 51 to 24.

As horrible as it is that truly is a positive. I'm glad that we have some sort of something to be happy about.

That's awful. Seeing the maps overlaid from 1999 and this last one, I can't believe some properties get hit dead center both times.

And Elementary schools.... That really blows, this is a really sad thing that happened. Seeing the destruction though, I'm surprised the toll is as low as it is.

Yeah, some people have lost their houses twice. You couldn't give me a house in Moore. They've actually had three tornados go through there. 1999, 2003 and the last one.

Final death toll released with names and ages. 24 dead. 10 of them children. All of them aged 9 yrs. and under. Over 300 injured.

There shouldn't be anyone at the children's funerals but friends and family period. This is not a public event this is a tragic time in these families lives and should be treated with dignity and respect, not a media circus for alterior motives.

I agree, it's getting clouded with ads for social media games...and mindless info, but you know what, I wouldn't go there for personal advice or a serious conversation. As much as we bullshit and crack jokes I know already in my short tenure here that I would get the support within this military (and civilian) family if I needed it...and I'll be here for anyone who needs me.

I just got notice that my buddies unit in Arizona is being mobilized for Oklahoma.. they it has give the soldiers the option to drive them selves if they have pickup trucks...so they can deliver donations. he's on the road right now with his truck overloaded with donated clothes...

Looks like tornadoes are about to start popping here in Central Oklahoma including the metro area again. The Governor has already activated the State Emergency Operations Center. A lot of companies are letting people go home early. Not mine, mind you, but some. :) if it gets too bad, I'll leave on my own. Gotta activate my evacuation plan. :)

Things will get back to normal after storm season passes. I'm back home now. Had to work my way around some flooding and damage, but no damage to my own home. They've shut down several of the interstates in the city. Still checking with friends and family, but I believe we were the closest to the path.

Yep. Still storming, but the tornados are gone...for now. Casualties again. Tonight was the first time I've ever felt the need to take shelter, or bug out. But, better safe than...dead. It was an interesting evening.

i know what you mean, when I lived in Missouri we had to actually use the tornado shelter once....shit is scary to say the least. Take care!
