Civillian Age Requirement - Why 21?

It to me seems unfair somewhat, especially if said 18 - 20 person is much more mature than others their age, not only that but has or had a relative that served in the Military.

Like for me it was my Grandfather, who is currently dying of Cancer, who served in the Air Force during Vietnam.

I wish potential exceptions could be made, but I understand if not.

Anyway, I just figured that I would maturely give my two cents on such.

I would rebut with the question as to why you wish to join USMG? We are primarily an exclusive group of military members past and present. For the most part civilians are allowed to join but only with current member referrals. We enforce this rule because stereotypically most 18-20 year old civilians haven't experienced a lot of what those in the military have. Whether it be deployments , family separations, and very similar experiences we all are bound by a what we have done. You might be an excellent addition to our very tight knit community but our charter leaves us no exceptions on this rule. We have made exceptions in the past and they have never panned out. Thank you for your mature question.

I am not on the perimeter watch here. So I think KaNtSt0PMeH has addressed this issue well enough.
As far as your Grandfather, my deepest regrets. I thank him for his service, and being a Vietnam Veteran, I hope he has a Veterans Advocate attending to some of his administrative (and Veteran Affairs) needs. Certain presumptive illnesses are covered by the VA for our Nam Vets (many types of cancers included). If he hasn't gotten that representation, I strongly suggest that that happens....

I whole-heartedly disagree with your opinion that the rule is unfair. The rule is very fair. It intent is to protect the members, NOT the applicants. The fact remains, you came here seek admittance to a tight-knit fellowship, therefore the rules apply to you. The reason the rule is stated as such, is because it is very difficult to judge maturity based on the short application process we have.

With that being said, and while Kant's reply hits the nail on the proverbial head; We have in-fact made a limited amount of exceptions.

And with that being said: Why should we make one in your case?

It was 5'7, these days there are no educational or language requirments for general service, and the height requirment is a minimum of 5'2.
But for officer cadet school its a bit different, you have to have graduated from high school and speak Irish.

I do speak french..maybe I can join the foreign legion. lmao

Yes what Smoke said. One thing I would like to add is this military based family does welcome civilians and treats us equally with no discrimination. As you can see, I'm a civilian, and was once on the staff here. As the rules may appear to be slanted against civilians, they truly are not. Our rules have been set forth based on past history, nothing more.

I think I speak for all of us here, we appreciate you coming forth and not trying to pose or cheat our application process.

I'm a civilian as well and I have had many family members serve in the military. I can say the only reason why I am a civilian is because of my leg as many of the people here know. I can agree that most people who haven't served in the military aren't as mature as those who have. I can say I'm not as mature as some of these guys but I think I'm more mature than most my age or I would've gotton the boot by now. So I must be doing something right.

We have had (and still do) several civilian members in the past, and they have been/are awesome additions.
The rules where set in place a long time ago, and for some very good reasons. USMG almost closed its doors, the rules where set into place after this.

Actually, it is because of how I work in the real world this happened. In my job, copy is supposed to be proofed and ready to go when they give it to me to place in a design. :) I rarely check it.
