I have noticed that new members have been getting switched automatically to airforce even though they selected something differant.

I think that is the default setting. Maybe?

Alphabetic default because a branch HAS to be selected. It's good though because it makes them go in and adjust their profiles.

Why is it good? When they can just do that when they apply?

Because it allows them navigate the site and understand where some of the things are at. OJT.
