Overall I will not purchase the new consoles at launch. I will wait for all the ps4 exclusives to actually come out as well as titanfall for Xbox one. So I expect to get them early next year.

What sealed the deal for me was the used game policy....and the fact that I can go offline and not have to worry about not being able to play my damn games (disc based). Seems a little too "big brotherish" from Microsoft. This is coming from a guy who has had both a PS3 and a 360 since their launch.

With all the benefits of having a PS plus account I don't think it will bother them that much, I know it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. But I also think a lot of PS3 owners saw it coming

I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop with Sony. Claiming that there's zero drm on the ps4 is well and good...... but there doesn't seem to be any way they can substantiate that, and maintain the big multi-console titles. Especially the ones that have DRM on the PS3. Are they going to tell Ubisoft that they can no longer require connections and online passes for games on the PS4?

Gut feeling only, but I see Sony having very similar DRM requirements, and blaming it on the developers. I also think people who are thrilled about backwards compatibility on the PS4 to be equally disappointed when they realize its not true backwards compatibility, but what's most certainly going to be a charged service.

So finally home from duty and watching e3 coverage from yesterday. I'm not the most tech savvy person but the more I hear and see about the always online connection for XB1 the more I think I am understanding why they are doing it. Now by all means I think it has to do with DRM but I believe the vision is somewhat more than that. Watching how they are using it to make the AI smarter in Forza 5 is amazing. If they integrate it like they are explaining it and using it for making the game change constantly definitely makes me think it is the right move and will revolutionize gaming by giving you a different experience every time you play. If I am way off in left field by all means tell me.

They said they were leaving it up to publishers which will probably be online passes but I'm totally fine with that as I buy my games new anyways. However having mandatory checks every 24 hours is bullshit as People do not anyways have Internet or just want to play single player games. .I will end up picking both up anyways but not at launch as kz and infamous are not even launch titles.

I think the current iteration of online passes is dead, with EA pulling them. BUT there's too much money there for publishers to just give up. I think we'll see something similar again, just repackaged

Sure it will. Only difference thus far is retailers like Gamestop will have to buy the "authenticator" and MS looks to be opening a digital store as well.

There's not a lot of other ways for them to get around it though. Either they'll have something similar to MS authentication, they'll have the online passes they've had for years already, or they'll slowly lose bigger budget games from developers who support drm.

Opposing DRM has been a losing fight since CD keys popped up for PC games back in the 90's. Sony's huge "No DRM" claims aren't the full truth, and we'll be hearing more on it before launch, I can all but guarentee it. Whether it's blame on the devs, or something else.

I agree with you, it will make it better, or at least it should. It's just that I've heard so many gamers say they will buy the PS4 because its free online!! And now it's not!! Lol!!

I don't know...Smartglass is cool, but for me, practically useless (the only thing I use it for is sending messages/adding friends when I'm away from the console). Feels like more of a gimmick to me. While true that Smartglass is more widespread, Vita actually does something​.

It does do something.......if you're one of the minority who has one. Otherwise......nothing.

Conversely, I use mine for pretty much everything not in-game, which thanks to the kid and wife is the majority of my time on the box. The Halo in-game bit was kind of cool for people who stat track, Madden was surprisingly cool.....and its only been out for a couple months. If they're able to ramp it up for the Xbox One, then it'll be a "gimmick" that nearly everyone can use. As opposed to one that most people don't.

Yeah, and I'm looking at it the exact opposite. I'd rather see them spend developing time that benefits the largest amount of people, rather than a small minority. And considering we're talking 3-5%, that's a small minority.

I'm not arguing with that. I'd rather see the development trend that way too. But I'm saying as the tech currently stands, which one I find more impressive.

Lets not forget they are a business trying to sell a product that has been a bit slow and will never compete with on the level of Nintendo, so giving it more appeal to PS4 owners might help sales. Personally I love the damn thing....hate the proprietary memory.....and they need more games. The device itself has stunning graphics and display its hands down a portable console.
