I know there are people here who will argue and disagree with me until the end of days but whatever because i don't care nor will i bother with counter arguments, IMO Sony completely smoked Microsoft today! No used game restrictions or complicated plans, no online check ins required, $100 lower initial pricing, Kingdom hearts 3 is finally coming... good day for Sony. Not liking Playstation Plus being a requirement for online play but at least you get free games and discounts every month so it pays for itself really quickly

If they're coming it at a lower price point without all the other baggage that the One has, then that's huge for PlayStation. Even with the mandatory PS+, so what? Xbox Live Gold for Sony (XBL is admittedly more polished, but the gap will close). Sony comes up big here I think.

Same here. I have always succumbed to PS Fanboyism and bought their console at launch then a year or so later I am on Xbox exclusively. So this time I am just skipping the early part and going to where I know I will end up and that is XB1. I am shocked however they went below MS on price. Sony has always been the higher priced console at launch. Maybe the fact that they have been outsold the last few years made them undercut this time. It is a wise move for them and they will probably outsell XB1 this holiday season. I payed 699 for the 60GB version of the PS3 at launch and 499 for the PS2 back in 2000. On another note they didn't show as many exclusives as they normally do either, they just seemed focused on punching MS in the face with showing they will not have all the requirements for online connectivity and used games.

The offerings are all good. But I'll be staying on the PS3 a bit longer. Nothing shown on the PS4, has made me want to stand up and say "I have to have it now"!!!!! When I'm ready to make the switch however.... It's good to know that Sony has me covered.

I have never owned a playstation console but playstation definitely won e3. These consoles are for all intents and purposes identical in what they do but one does not have ridiculous drm and costs $100 less. Ms spent $1 billion on exclusivity for their system which has always struck me as.a.really Dick move but they do have the games to show for it.
I am thinking about making the swith to playstation but I'm undecided. I think I will wait a while after launch to see if a real winner emerges or not. I hate the point when a new system comes out and a game I want is on both the new and the old. Sure its fun on the old console but I am not having as much fun as I could be having and buying new games seems like a bit of a waste for a dying system.

That's exactly what they are trying to say, that the console itself will not have any limitations or additional checks and systems in place. They've said it's up to the publishers if they're going to implement systems, just like it is now, they have been clear on that too

The PS4 IS DRM-free, the games are not. I never expected them to prohibit game DRM, so all that meant to me when they said DRM-free was the console. I think that's still huge for them and still a big advantage.

Nope. They were talking games. Thats why there's a later clarification stating it was only Sony's games, and other developers would have to make their own decisions regarding DRM. Kant properly called it for what it was. Dick-cheese.

Ps4 will require ps plus to play multiplayer. I've had ps plus since it came out, so it's no big deal to me. Plus you get tons of free retail games every month.

Why? Because all of a sudden they have to pay for something we've had to pay for for years? They're just going to give up the ecosystem they've chosen, the friends they have? Some will, but I don't think we'll see a mass exodus, especially not with the mass hate heaped on the Xbox recently.

I am not going to "switch". Although I do have both systems, I have much more time invested into PSN. I could and possibly will get the XB1 after a while and pay for live too, but I am going for the PS4 out of the gate, $50/year is not much when you really think about it.

Exactly. Either way you'll spend $400-500 on the console, and $50-150 on 1-3 extra controllers. Throw in at least 4 games a year (I would say most gamers not named Jared get that many), and that's $240. So we're talking easily $700-800 bucks. An extra $50 isn't going to be a huge issue.

Yeah, but this really only works for people who have a passing knowledge of Live. If you've spent the last five years mocking MS and its live subscription, its a pretty drastic load you're forced to swallow.

Having been on the receiving end of those discussions on "how much of a ripoff" Live is, it's definitely interesting to see the backlash, or currently lack thereof, in this decision.

True, but like I said before, any smart PS player knew this was right around the bend. You just can't expect Sony to have a kickass network without paying for it. I agree, it will be much harder for Sony to come up with viable excuses with the income supporting the network....assuming they care what is being said by their community...which from the way things are starting off I don't think it will be a problem.

...not E3 in the us but Gamescon, some news for today


Sony's Gamescom press conference from Cologne, Germany, begins at noon EST (9AM PT, 6PM CEST). We're expecting another rockin' roller-coaster of announcements from the PlayStation 4 manufacturer. We'll share our analyses and hopes from the front row in a liveblog, right here, right when it starts. At least we hope it's the front row, with Ritter Sport chocolates placed delicately on the cushions. We dream big.

Sony will share its "release plans" for the PS4 during the conference, and the presentation will touch on news for the PS3 and Vita

True, but like I said before, any smart PS player knew this was right around the bend. You just can't expect Sony to have a kickass network without paying for it. Free was nice, but the network suffered. Now they have ZERO excuse for a shoddy network. It's like XBOX players say, "It better fuckin work if I'm paying for it!"

The security had better be improved to make sure no more hacking or private info is stolen again. There really is no excuse anymore.
