Google and The First Amendment

With all of the NSA spying news out there Google steps up to the plate. Is it a sincere concern on their part or a PR counter to their reputation?

My conspiracy theory side has always thought there was some type of plot with Google to compile.some type of national database with all of the information they have been able.to.collect. Free Email with the slogan, Never delete another email, Google Voice collecting phone calls and texts, Google health that ran for a couple.years before closing after it collected unknown amounts of medical data on people. Google Labs will be on that watching.

Well, they are a private company so are not subject to the 1st Amendment. Only the government can be charged with violation.

Yes, and with as much faith most put in Google it is somewhat scary.

Theoretically, as long as a company is not in bed with the government, I trust them with my info before the government. Unfortunately most companies are in bed with the government to some degree.
