question for all the "pog's"

So i'm a 91B or wheeled vehicle mechanic for those who don't know, been in the army for about two years now and I am currently in a cav unit in afghan. So my question for my other support brothers and sisters is such, why is that that combat arms hates us soooooo much, or is it just my lack of being in other units (I was in a FA unit before being inter-brigade switched to the cav unit) or maybe just our SCO/SGM that brings down the "pog" hate. Now don't let this question start any arguments, that was not the intent, i'm simply curious

Seriously though, I was a 63Y/63H (Tracked Vehicle Mechanic) in 1/36 INF BN, the 'POG' hate wasn't bad there, mostly just talkin' trash to get a rise out of one of us wrenches. I just think that when people get into this mindset they are really deep down inside whimpering little girls. If you can't respect a Brother/Sister in Arms - regardless of their MOS - then GTFO the military......

When I was HMMV cav in Germany and then in corp hq, we made friends with the wheeled mechanics, we depended on each other, I stood in a few weddings for a few wrenches. Some guys think unless your a combat arms your nothing, shit without personnel I don't get promoted or paid and without wrenches I am not getting my ride. I always made the signal guys mad cause I was a techy and would fix stuff without calling them. Just trying to help.

When I was an Infantryman I thought the supply guys were lazy shammers. Turns out they were. But then I reclassed to supply and I never stopped working. I guess it all depends on how much you care.

I was on both sides, was a grunt and a winger. From the grunt's perspective, its a miserable life, where every takes a giant shit on you all day, everyday, but it builds tremendous character and pride. The last thing a grunt wants is flak from the support element. The gear is there for us to use and fuck up to get our mission done. Getting questioned by a fresh smelling, well-fed, TV havin, soft bed sleeping, PX commando of a bitch SNCO/NCO about why a certain piece of gear is thrashed or why I smell, have fucked up, dirty, ripped crotched cammies.....just give the the gear and vet the fuck out of my way boot....see....there, I almost lost it....I digress. It about both sides not understanding where each other comes from....I will say more so the support side than the grunts, again I lived both, and it seemed that non grunts or non combat arms never truly understood what "its like" despite have some bad days themselves. Its the little things...that add up.

Gunfighters have assholes as do POGs. I only called a person a boot pog when they clearly never did anything in their career and were an asshole, that included a 1stSgt, one of mine and CWO armory bubba.from my battalion. If you good, maybe I'll share those stories in day.

Geez I had to look up 'Pog' to find out what the F... it meant... Google referred me to 'Pogue'... ahhhh.
Actually, on a Marine perspective; We start day one with the mentality and creed "That all Marines are Rifleman" (I know not PC huh?). But with that beat into you, you realize that "Pogue" is just a joking term....
In my latter years, I used to reserve some of the training areas on Camp Lejeune for a couple of weeks and plan a field exercise. Being stationed in a large Communication Battalion (with a rear echelon support mission) I had plenty of 'pogues' to deploy in the training.....
Admin clerks, Supply guys/gals, drivers, mechs, techs, IT Geeks,.... We placed the Sgt (E-5's in charge) The SNCO's were observers. The whole nature of the training was all combat related.
To make this already long story short.... None of the 'pogues' failed to perform sufficiently as an infantryman. Also, keep in mind with the nature of modern warfare, everywhere in an AOR (Area Of Operation) is the front line. So all even the 'Pogues' need to be on their game.

Only time I ever ran into them very much was on the floats. Made sure myself and all my Marines stayed out of their way and didn't give em shit. I felt bad enough that all they did was sit around and clean weapons all day and absorb knowledge in the sweltering hangar bay or some of the other sweltering corners of the boat. And then of course when we got to our destination, their job was quite different than ours.... We had it so good over there.

Me, I was in the chair wing, and in an MOS that had the chilliest, coldest, most awesome workspace on the boat. So I knew I had it good. We also worked together with the grunts to get some MCMAP (Semper Fu) training going while at sea, there were some leathery tough mother effers there. I was pretty jacked and always squared away, and ranked up pretty quick, so I didn't have many issues with them.

I actually told my recruiter I wanted to go 03 (this was right after 9/11 so I was super moto to go do something about it all). My ASVAB score was real high though, so he talked me into going air wing. Not gonna lie, the cash bonus sealed the deal. Throw the promise of a few grand in front of a broke ass college kid and it seems like a million dollars.... I don't regret my decision, although I often wondered what things would have been like if I'd have gone in as an 03.

There's a huge cultural difference between the POGs and grunts. However, a lot of the venom back and forth is a lot like the interservice rivalries; most of it is just in good fun and once in a while you'll get someone with a sandy vag and then all hell breaks loose.

Since the Gulf War (part 1) they have changed MOS Designations. I was a 91 A/B i.e. a Medic. I was assigned to an Ambulance Company, and I can tell you without a doubt, that we could not do our jobs without our "motor dogs." Everyone is a soldier first and whatever their MOS is second. Ft. SAM HOUSTON is the home of the Soldier Medic-note which one comes first. Note our motto: Born to Kill- Trained to Save. Keep 'em rollin' bro...when they are sitting on their behinds with a broken hunk of metal...suddenly you are "the one."

I'm in the National Guard now, and currently assigned to the state hq detachment. Most of our drill weekends consist of retirement ceremonies and promotions. This weekends was especially fantastic. There was an E-9 with 30+ years retiring. He made a little speech and spoke about how he never had a bad day in the Army, and how much he loved his job. He had been in recruiting for 17 years. Right there I realized why he had never had a bad day. So I figured I'd hear him out and wait for him to talk about his deployment(s). Well that time never came around. Over 30 years and no deployments? The first word that popped in my head was 'pogue'. Later I found out he was forced to retire because the IT guys found porn on his government issued laptop.

To me the word pogue has gotten a new meaning. It used to be anyone that wasn't combat arms. But since the war in Iraq, that's changed. Now it means deployment dodger to me.

Ultimately, I see it as overcompensation for insecurities. And it happens on both sides.

I never got to go outside the wire cause I wasn't mission essential to be out there.

All I did was build target packets as an analyst for the soldiers in my unit to grab up.

The cool thing about my job was that I got to watch interrogations and those are fun to watch.

You know what's also fun...playing dodge ball while being mortared, getting rocketed or having small arms fire that enter the FOB.

I laugh at soldiers who try and make fun of those who didn't go outside the wire.

You make it sound like you're the only one whose in harms way.

It's not my fault my leadership wouldn't let me outside the wire nor did I decide to choose a job that required me to get shot at.

So for those who make fun of soldiers like I was...can seriously get the big FU from me (I literally mean that).

Last time I checked, those who did go outside the wire were bitching cause they hated dealing with all the BS that comes with it.

It's only when were back home when those who did go outside the wire, act like their Mr. cool tough guy and expect sympathy from those they tell their stories too.
