Anyone hear of this? http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/07/11/gun-geo-marker-app-tries-to-locate-homes-businesses-gun-owners/

It's a terrible idea, but it doesn't appear to be gaining traction. I looked on Google Play, and it has:

23 5-star reviews
1 4-star review
1 3-star review
3 2-star reviews
1,161 1-star reviews!

Aside from the obvious problems, the reviews are pretty funny (including some 5-star reviews (all 5-star reviews were sarcastic, btw)):

***** Excellent!
Considering how ubiquitous guns are, I must assume everyone has them. Therefore I will assume every house in my city has them and will tag any which I don't know to be inhabited by responsible member of the several shooting clubs/ranges I belong to or having an NRA sticker evident somewhere.

*** Gotta move the cache
Some idiot went and marked my granny's grave. I mean, how in the world did they know that I had ol' granny cremated so I could use the grave to hide all my weapons? That was a total secret.

* Arms dealing terrorist resides 1600 Pennsylvania avenue Washington dc
Piece of trash app wont let me mark anything besides my own house. Please update so I can warn people about the sociopath arms dealer who is giving weapons to mexican drug dealers and alqeda terrorists in syria.

* This is going to be fun

Got few libtards down the road.......will mark them as dangerous ......

* Crap

Terrible idea and poor design. Why no zoom and why no way to label communists and socialist wackos?

I almost wasn't going to download this app because I live in Chicago, which has the best gun laws in the country meaning nobody around here would ever own a gun. I did anyway on a lark, and yesterday a guy jumped out of the dark with what I can only assume was a high capacity Assault Glockamatic with armor piercing clipazines. I quickly pulled out my phone and threatened to tag him with this app. He then saw my Hillary 2016 sticker and Flying Spaghetti Monster tattoo and embraced the glory of the Progressive Way, threw down his Fully Slaughtermatic Bushmaster AR-47 Childkiller and pledged his allegiance to Obama and Biden. Thanks, Gun Geo Marker!

* Evil guns walkin aroundI got this app cuz of that zimmerman guy and stuff worryin bout guns shootin people, whens I opened this app up, I found 87 guns walkin round on their own ready to hurt people, who lets a dangerous gun out in the wild on its own?

**** Keeping the neighborhood safe...
One of the houses down the street got their vehicle broken into a night. I made sure to label everyone on the block as being heavily armed. So far so good...

Oh yeah, in the description they say this:

Our app rating is a source of pride. We encourage anyone to look at the reviews and determine for themselves: Is it the quality of app? Or is is what the app does?

Most of the legitimate reviews were 1-star reviews anyway, saying it sucked. But the fact they're 'happy' about a 1.1-star rating is...interesting.

I think its a good and bad idea.

Good, cause it lets those know if there is people in their neighborhood who have guns. It also lets those know who are buying or plan on buying a house know if they are in a neighborhood that has neighbors who have guns.

Bad, cause it lets those who plan on doing bad know that they need to pack heat before they make their move.

My choice, I think its a bad thing.

I don't want people knowing I have guns.

If I did, I would let them know.

I don't see it ever being a good idea...I don't care who has guns. I'm gonna have them, and I don't need to know who has them, and they don't need to know I do. You move into a neighborhood, check the police crime reports. I'd feel safer knowing I was surrounded by gun owners, but it's not necessary.

But I agree with your second point

Wow I wanna find the person who made this and give them a good bitch slap for making this app. Not only is this an invasion of privacy but its criminalizing gun owners and making us no better than actual criminals. If we do this then we should go and make an app that we can mark all the people who dont have guns. That newspaper got in trouble for releasing the names and addresses for gun owners in New York so why isn't this stupid app being taken down. I should make an app that marks all the libtards that don't like guns.

I don't get it. When are these idiots going to realize that the majority of guns used in crimes are black market? Those people don't register their guns, or buy them from a reputable dealer.

This app is like a candy store for violent crime offenders. "Oh this guy has a gun? I'll break in and steal it so I can shoot my sister's boyfriends uncle".

I absolutely agree that this is stupid and dangerous. As well as an invasion of our privacy. However, I do thank the person that created this app, solely for the reason that they gave this guy/gal the reason to make this review.

Absolutely hilarious.

It's not being taken down probably because they are probably within their 1st amendment rights. But it's not going to be productive because of the amount of spam, essentially, that has been introduced by people who don't like the app.
