Tesla Factory = AWESOME!

Here's a video of the robotic Tesla factory. It sucks that it takes physical workers away, but somebody had to build and maintain the robots.....so good and bad, but impressive it is!

Glad to see people appreciate it. It's not easy to put something like that together. Some of our controllers and gateways are in there running some of those things, I do some of the firmware for said components.... We actually were responsible for a small delay on one of the lines getting up and running. :eek

That model m is pretty badass. I mean what other electric car can put that much power out. Maybe in 10 years I can buy one when they're not longer 80k and up.

Yeah the application engineers do all the heavy lifting there.... I'm more at a lower level getting the stacks to behave and ensuring communication happens as per the respective spec of said protocol, and those specs are often moving targets, and have features added all the time, and of course everybody wants the newest optional shiny features of the protocol whether their application needs it or not.... Basically I (am part of a team who) provide(s) the foundation on which they can use our API to do whatever the F they want within the realm of possibility and within the specs involved.

In this instance, I think our devices went into another company's box which then went either into the robots or the control systems (so our device was "wrapped" into the whole of the project twofold so-to-speak), so there are some layers of abstraction between what I do and actually doing FUN stuff like programming robots to dance like that. This is how it usually works, we have very few out-of-the-box end user items. We aren't at the application layer of any of these implementations but I've often thought about becoming an application engineer in this industry eventually, maybe as a consultant (combined with integrating systems) after I've got some years under my belt though....

They are such highly complicated and expensive systems though..... Even from the smallest components, it's an extremely specialized industry, so everything is really freaking expensive.

I would love to work on an assembly line when it comes to building mustangs.

I honestly have to say that if my job goes sour, i'm thinking of going to tech school to get certified to work on cars.

I love working them but I said that before and i got to a point where I hated working on them.

After working on my car a couple weeks ago, I got that itch to start working on them but I would really love to work on cars by putting performance parts on cars

I can change the oil. And replace anything that's "unscrew two screws, take the old one put, put the new one in, screw it back in". But anything of any complexity, no.
