Last month as I was in the Commissary, I saw the Marine Corps Times magazine cover and thought it was a joke.

Thanks to the social engineering of our military here is some of many changes yet to come. 'Boys will be boys, girls will be girls, and Boys will be girls and Girls will be boys.' (my editorial comment)..

Uniforms have gone to shit anyway, boots don't have to polish boots, don't have to press their cammies, don't have to roll their sleeves in the desert uniform (which was an exercise in attention to detail as well).... Drill Instructors can't do nearly what they used to be able to do....

I'm not even a big throwback, I entered the Corps in '01. All this has changed in that little amount of time. If we keep heading in this direction, we'll be baking cupcakes for our enemies instead of raining down hate and discontent.

The more we dilute the Corps, the stronger the argument will be that the Corps is not "needed". The traditions and history of the Corps are part of what keeps the perceived "need" for the Corps alive. I don't agree with fucking with the uniforms to this extent.

EDIT: Sam, it's normal for you not to empathize. I wouldn't expect otherwise and that's not a dig at you at all. I don't expect members of other branches to see it from the same angle.

I'll admit it's probably because I'm not a Marine. My two best friends and my brother are, and they love their uniforms. I'll admit they have grown on me, but I still don't see it as crucial.

As for the Marines not being needed, I don't think that's going to happen. But we could do with a large reduction in force across the board. But that's a political argument, and not really constructive to this discussion.

It's a new Marine Corps. That is why I am going to do my b billet and then most likely getting out. I've been in 6 years and things have changed way too rapidly for me.

One of the congressmen that voted against the joint service uniform stated that the money saved by making one universal uniform, wouldn't amount to the morale that will be lost by making every branch look the same. He was prior service.

I disagree somewhat, specifically in regards to duty uniforms. I think that subtle differences in duty uniform will be more than enough to maintain morale.

I was under the impression it only affected duty uniforms, not dress. But even with dress, it should be possible to maintain individuality while achieving a mostly universal approach.

For the love of all that is holy could someone please give the Air Force a more military looking service dress! But thats another topic, I'm more than good with a service wide utility, I think its silly how much money is wasted on R&D and wear testing of all the services uniforms.

I am sorry but that is crap IMHO...I am not in the service, but yall know i am all about our service Men and Women.......This is a bunch of political crap, they need to stop worrying about making a unisex uniform and use all that money from research & development and pay Death benefits out and stop putting them on hold cause the government wants to take a break and give all the deserving men and women of our military a pay raise.....Use money wisely and leave well enough alone...It has been fine for many years now, it will be fine for many more to come...IMHO...Sorry for my rant on your post Bro......

If someone were to catch themselves on the wrong side of a panel fire the uniform could quite possibly heat up and melt to the skin. They are now issuing a new version of coveralls that are somewhat fire resistant and we are supposedly no longer allowing NWUs to be worn while under way. Don't really know how I feel about this though.

Woah there, easy ghost rider. This story is getting blown way out of proportions here. This is what is on the table:

"The company that currently makes the female dress cover is going out of business. The Marine Corps is therefore evaluating what to do about his situation. Find a new company, or just make females wear the same cover as the male Marines."

This is not about a service wide uniform, and as far as I have ever read, this is only affecting female Marines. It is about their dress cover and nothing else.

The Commandant has stated that the President has ZERO say in what uniform the military wears. Please remember that press nowadays jumps at the chance to print an article first.

Do I think the female cover belongs? Absolutely. I like it. It still looks fitting, while still keeping a female feminine. But is it worth investing millions in? Won't she still look good in a male cover? Pretty much. This is not stripping each branch of their uniforms or any of that.

Who knows? But it doesn't surprise me. There are all kinds of things that a supposedly going to happen to Navy uniforms. Dress blues are supposed to drop their buttons, and they are adding piping to the dress whites. I have even heard that they are coming out with a new Dress uniform cover but I am sure that is a rumor from beyond the known.
