Hacking is the ultimate weapon in new Watch Dogs trailer

Ubisoft has released a new Watch Dogs trailer focused on protagonist Aiden Pearce’s ultimate weapon, his ability to hack. Pearce, a former criminal who’s seeking justice following a violent family tragedy, is required to unlock near-future Chicago’s centralised technology software on a district by district basis by installing viruses.

According to the trailer’s narrator: “Everyone and everything is connected by technology. Hacking into that connection can be very powerful. All of these connections are controlled by CTOS, a city-wide centralised software created to cut costs and maximise efficiency. It manages transportation control, emergency response, utilities, crime monitoring and much more. Everything connected to the network can be hacked from a smartphone. With the push of a button, the city will become your weapon.”

Hacking will also play a role in Watch Dogs multiplayer gameplay. Today’s trailer is the first in a new Watch Dogs video series, with the second part set to focus on the city of Chicago itself. Watch Dogs is set for release on November 19 in the US and November 22 in the UK on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. It will be available at launch for PS4 and Xbox One.

It looks as though the mystery surrounding the release date for Ubisoft’s dystopian hacking adventure, Watch Dogs, may be coming to an end, if a listing on Sony’s Entertainment Network store is anything to go by.


The listing comes after the original November release date was pushed back to an ambiguous ‘spring’ window to allow for more polishing - and if it proves to be true the game would certainly be a welcome addition to the summer gaming roster, which is usually a downtime historically.

The developments come following the appearance of an advertisement on Sony’s PlayStation Blog which seemingly confirmed the release date for Ubisoft’s delayed third-person shooter would be revealed in an upcoming trailer, which is yet to surface.

It's official: Watch Dogs sets May 27 release date

After a delay that pulled its newest open world title from the roster of two console launches, Ubisoft has set a new release date for Watch Dogs: May 27, 2014. The new release date targets versions in development on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3.


During a financial call in February, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced that the Wii U release of Watch Dogs would see its own separate delay, pushing the version's release beyond other platforms in order to "focus the team's resources where they could have the broadest possible benefit for both our customers and Ubisoft." No firm date for the Wii U version has been established.


Speaking with Joystiq, Watch Dogs Senior Producer Dominic Guay could only say the Wii U version would arrive "a few months" after the game's release on counterpart platforms.

I played for a good 3-4 hrs last night, had a lot of fun, was having trouble getting the mp to work. You can hack random ppl, but I also noticed an online session and free roam mode, havent had a chance to explore the mp too much yet. The sp, is a lot of fun still trying to get the hang of things... Good game... Though I can't say yet that I am thoroughly impressed, I am getting a very familiar titanfall-like feeling in my gut and I don't like it... We shall see.

I got it today and played it for about an hour. I would describe it as a combination of Splinter Cell/ GTA. A lot of sneaking around, but I'm only in the beginning of the game so This is just a first impression. I do like the storyline though, it's different. So far no complaints, good game. Achievements seem reasonable too!!

I was thinking the same thing. Also I am thinking of hitting up RedBox to try it out before I buy it.... With that out there, let me tell u this one tid bit of info..... Irish was broadcasting this afternoon and he was bouncing on these huge flowers, his dude was like on PCP or something..... It looked fricking awesome...... That in it self makes me almost want to get it, if u have not seen the game play, either hit up Irish on Twitch and ask him to play the flower power bounce,lol, or if he is not on find someone that's broadcasting the flower deal, u will not regret it......

I played about an hour last night, mostly free roam. It's a bit overwhelming because of the size of the map, and the amount of information being displayed. There's always something going on when you're in the street. Very cool though. I plan on getting more into the story tonight.

Well it's like you took the words right out of my mouth. It feels like a splinter cell meets GTA. Got to play for about 2 hours. A lot of the mini games etc in free roam are cool. Like GTA I can see it getting repetitive pretty fast but hey GameStop gave me a coupon with it that if it's traded in by 7/26 you get 40 bucks guaranteed so if it's old by the. I may just pull a Jared and trade it in

I dont really get the GTA feel with this game at all, it has more of a Assassins Creed mixed with Person of Interest feel than GTA. Honestly GTA got really boring really fast, it may be repetitive but it isnt as clumsy as GTA gets in the driving and combat.

Me too. I've been playing all week and have barely gotten any of the story done. I hacked about $200k the first night. My favorites are the gang hideouts.

Yeah, I think I am on the second mission in act 1. I have been playing the online hacking and tailing way too much. So far the tailing is super easy for me, but the online hacking definitely depends on a few factors. mostly where I can initialize it. I love doing the hack inside the garage and then hiding outside the parking garage or factory.

I think one person has to be in game, and the other on the app. Last night I noticed that in certain parts of the highway a red mission pops up and it says companion app. Basically one person drives a car, and the one on the app uses a helicopter and cop cars and tries to stop them from reaching a certain location.

So I've completed the game and all side missions, and in my honest opinion it didn't live up to the hype. It was a fun game, but with the year delay and everyone hyping it up as much as they did, I think they could have done better and made it longer. The missions all went by really fast, but it kept the story going to a point. Overall I would rate it 6/10

I'm never buying another of their products again. I was 80% through the game when it crashed on me after
I downloaded a car from Uplay. Now the game freezes on the loading screen. I have read it is a major bug
effecting a lot of people and hasn't been fixed yet. Fuck this bullshit. Ubisoft are never getting another penny
from me.
