Basically, if you get a season pass for a game on a 360, that season pass will carry over if you get a next-gen system.
Introducing Season Pass Guarantee: Buy a Season Pass on Xbox 360, Get a Season Pass for the Same Game on Xbox One Free
By Xbox Wire Staff posted August 14, 2013 at 11:30 AM
Fans of Season Passes now have another reason to look forward to Xbox One with the Season Pass Guarantee program. With Season Pass Guarantee, you can purchase a Season Pass for a participating Xbox 360 title and automatically receive access to download the equivalent Xbox One Season Pass.* It’s simple.
Some of the biggest publishers, including Activision, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, are lined up for the Season Pass Guarantee program, offering season pass content you can’t find anywhere else for blockbuster titles in 2013 and 2014. You’ll be able access exclusive season pass content on anticipated titles like “Call of Duty: Ghosts” and “Battlefield 4” on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Season Pass Guarantee makes transitioning from Xbox 360 to Xbox One an easier and smoother process, so you don’t have to worry about which console you’re playing games on or repurchasing your existing add-ons on Xbox One.
Stay tuned as publishers and titles participating in the Season Pass program are announced in the coming months.
*Xbox Live members must own the same game on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One in order to receive Season Pass Guarantee benefits.

I think they would be stupid not to do this. It's a smart business move really nothing unprecedented here.

They announced it first. But all games and that are cross gen. Would be stupid to not do this, at least for the first yr.

All games on all systems are allowing season pass transfer? Really? I think you may be mixing up game transfer and season pass transfer. And there's been no word I can find that Sony is following suit yet.
Its absolutely a smart business move, but trying to downplay what basically equates to free DLC is kind of silly.

Free DLC? I don't follow. You have to pay for it correct? It transfers if you buy the next gen console and game. OK I guess if 565+ is free DLC your correct. Its not like COD has in the past made people pay for something then given it out free or taken it away only to come up with some be excuse, Nuketown being the most recent example.
It is nice don't get me wrong, I'm just not blinded but I believe will become normal happenstance for a bit to get people to buy two copies of a game while they transition to next gen. In today's economy at least for myself while it would be nice to buy two copies of every game put out for a year, not going to happen. That's why I made the comment about it being kinda meh overall for some of us its not really all that great a deal.

The DLC that you purchased for a game should carry over regardless of system, glad to see that it will for the 360 to One, haven't heard anything from Sony yet, I'm sure they will follow suit.

Good info River. Just of many questions that need to be answered though.

It IS free DLC. It's not saying "buy an Xbox One, get free DLC". Sure, you have to have the XBone, but saying the DLC "actually costs $565" is false. Because people who use this are those who are already buying the XBone and as such, are just getting to keep their stuff.

Yes, its basically free DLC. Can you honestly say that this was expected? If you can say yes, then please pass that shit my way for a toke. This is a prime opportunity to gouge the customer for some extra dough, and they're passing it over. This from "the big three" who are arguably the least friendly to consumers.
And combined with the Gamestop offer, this is gold for the people who can't afford multiple games and passes. It won't last forever, but for the short term, its great. I can pull off getting one (COD or BF4) at launch, getting the pass, and upgrading. Rather thanvBulletin having to buy two games and two passes.

Assuming $60/game, and $50/pass, that's basically a potential sale of $220. But with this, they're getting $60+50+10, or $120-a loss of $100! This is surprising.

From EA, Activision, and Ubisoft? Absolutely.
What I'm really curious to see though, is if MS is shelling out the dough for this or if its the developers offering it. I'm leaning MS, simply because if it was the developers, I'd expect to have heard from Sony same day.

Ubisoft is doing it? For what game? Yeah, maybe MS is prompting this. Who knows.

It's possible. I've only seen references to Battlefield and CoD.
