Now that ive have been playing BF3 for about 3 months straight i can see the Lure and attraction of BF3 to alot.. but on the same hand ive been playing around with BLOPII online and see the complete difference in the games..

both are great games and ive played all the COD(WW2) and COD MW & BO series and now goes the same with BF and all its sub series... was never a fan of the older BF games till now

but both are completely different games.. not a fan boy of ether just enjoy both for different reasons

i know we have alot of people who play both.. and some that dont.. "fanboys of a franchise" which in turn keep me away from BF3 cause of the trash talk..about how superior it was over the COD games.. i just thought meeh its just another shooter .. know after getting it i see i was wrong and wont listen again to Fanboys..

what does everyone else think?

Both are modern FPSs, but the similarities end there. CoD is a fast-paced arcade shooter, faster paced than even Battlefield's CQ modes. I loved CoD back in the day-MW1 completely revolutionized multiplayer for shooters, but they lost their innovation edge and the net code is too laggy for me. BF3 is better designed IMO, but I also prefer the realism. It's no Arma III, but the mechanics are great.

So I love both, for different reasons, but COD drove me away after it got worse and worse.

Bullet drop doesn't make a game "realistic". They're completely different approaches to first person shooters, to the point that trying to compare them is kinda silly.

But to call one better and more realistic is like trying to call one half of a pile of dogshit fresher and more appealing than the other half.:D

I really enjoyed doing combat training, spec ops and co-op in COD franchise. I enjoyed the co-op in BF3. I wish they would do more co-op campaign like in COD WAW. 4 man co-op with friends has quite a bit of replay value.

Seriously? Bullets drop in real life, rather severely after a few hundred yards. Bullets take time to travel, rather than arriving instantly (like CoD's hitscans). The game mechanics in Battlefield ARE more realistic. It's still a game though, and there ARE plenty of unrealistic elements. I actually didn't call Battlefield better. I said I liked it better. But if you look at the elements of realism, Battlefield wins hands down. Even the most hardened CoD fanboys agree with that.

Man I have to agree. I just started playing BF3 during the last double-xp weekend and I thought I would never say this but I prefer the BF3 multiplayer, even bought the premium pack last night. Still love the hard core kill confirmed but BF3 wins it for me.

Yes, seriously. I'm fairly certain I understand how bf3 uses bullet drop to be slightly more realistic, which is why I mentioned it earlier. But that's about it as far as being "more realistic" goes. And even that often feels arbitrary and un "realistically" included....because its regularly inconsistant.

Just kidding everyone, keep your powder dry.
I agree, (not because we play together often). I haven't played ARMA but, have heard that it is more realistic.
I have to admit that BF has gotten a wider edge over COD for me these days. It (BF) has the tools to encourage team play and planning, however, that concept is rarely used.

I guess everyone of us could write an article on this comparison...

lol, yes they have. I saw the title and thought, "OH SHIT, Here we go!!" I have witnessed MANY flame wars over the subject. I think it is all in your personal preference. As it is with which platform you play on. The people you game with is most important. With that, although MY personal preference is BF on PS3, I could play any title with the group we have.

I'll just say this, even though it's been said before: I like BF3's multiplayer better than anything CoD has put out. I would even say I preferred BF: Bad Company's MP over CoD's. However, the more recent CoD games over the past three or four years have always had a superior campaign. But for what it's worth, I can only play a campaign so many times. BF3's multiplayer never lets me down...win, lose, or draw. But that's just my personal opinion only.

So there ya go.

I tried to swear off the CoD franchise a couple times now, and I've liked the releases less and less since OG MW, but when I don't have friends on and I just want to head into the game, blast the shit out of people, and not have to worry so much about teamwork, IMO it's better than the BF* series (statistically I do much better anyway). However, that probably has some to do with the fact that I don't play BF quite right in the first place, but I really struggle without teamwork going on around me. CoD seems to be more readily accessible instant gratification for me.

And although BF's PC releases lately haven't been anything to write home about as far as stability and cheats, in my experience they've been much better than the recent CoD titles released on PC.

I think this time around instead of doing BF and CoD, I'm going to do BF and ArmA. And at some point in time I'm sure I'll end up getting CoD to play with the step kids because they like playing it.

I guess I just don't see why heated debates would come from this. There's enough fundamental difference between the two that I consider them very different. They're still both arcade FPSes but very different flavors.

Now hug it out damn it.

LMAO. I'm still waiting for a real non fanboy answer.

From a non-subjective view - BF3's netcode is superior (you can play it on a slower connection with less lag), it is less susceptible to hacks/lag switchers thanks to dedicated servers, and it has fewer bugs than recent CoD versions. And its graphics are better, though not as noticeable on console.

From a slightly subjective view - BF3 has more realistic physics, and vehicles are more controllable. The lack of killstreaks means people can specialize in different skills (tank driving, helicopter flying). And the squad play lends itself to more of a tactical aspect, with each class able to support each other in their own way. The slightly slower pace means you're less likely to run into a large group and take them all out and survive.

From a really subjective view - BF3 is way more fun.

I have liked CoD even back when they were still called MoH. The mp is fun though you have the weird connection issues that you have with CoD that you dont have with BF3. CoD is very linear and very constant there isnt much you can do with the in game portion other than run and gun. BF3 is very static there is always something to do to change the way the game can be played whether you blow a hole in the wall or collapse a building. The maps in CoD are very small and very predictable on where people will be, yes there is this in BF but not as much. I stopped playing CoD when Blops 1 came out because the only thing that was fun in that game was sticks and stones. The whole currency portion of that game was lame in my opinion. Oh and one more thing you cant fly or drive anything in CoD.

That's fun too, but it is equally fun to have a couple kills streaks going while you are running around still popping bullets into the enemy. I'm a huge fan of both franchises and find each one great in their own ways. I know I was razzing you earlier when you put BF>COD(FACT), but honestly they are so different the comparisons pretty much end at military FPS. The debates and comparisons will always continue because they are the standard setters on how to run FPS franchises.

The reason the franchises even compete is because of the hate towards each other. If you think about it the only things they genuinely have in common is you shoot people in both of them.

Call of Duty is more individual talent, Killstreaks, etc... in short if you want to truly enjoy CoD you NEED to be decent... .85 K/D at least IMO

BF3 is all about team work, holding down positions, having ammo peps, medics, resupply boxes all over etc. strategy. But everyone can do their part. I believe last night we had someone on the team (non-member) go 0-24 or something like that and still had 1500 pts... in CoD you ain't getting shit lol..

Both have their pros and cons and the only people that can't grasp that are usually morons :)

Yup Ive spent entire matches throwing out healing kits, and reviving. Keeping my squad alive so that they could take the objective. My K/D was something like 5-20, but I out scored anyone in my squad.

Or do nothing but hunt down the other teams Armor, probably will have a lower K/D, but overall will allow my teams Armor to take the field and press the advantage. The hard core BF people look more to a Win/Loss ratio than to a K/D ratio.

That is close to my mental approach to the game, and it is encouraging that it rewards those playing the role. When you see the players up there with a 4:1 K/D and you were jump starting them all game, it's a hidden credit. However, it somewhat annoying that it is called 'squads' when it is really a fire team. (Who were the military advisors anyway). And I know it is tough for some to put the individuality of COD in the background to play more to the team concept.

This is a very valid point. But overall I would rather work in the team dynamic than individually. It's funny how in bf3 you can control the flow of a match with a single squad just controlling the objectives. And with us playing the game I have more fun in the team/ squad play.

Actually I look at score per minute (also W/L to a degree). Gives a whole - game look.

Agreed. My best K/D's are when I've got a team watching the flanks, picking me up, and calling out targets. It is so much fun when everyone is playing the team game.

Omg these graphics are too pretty is burning my retinas. Just kidding. I agree both games are great. But both are great for completely opposite reasons. To each thier own.

I am with Valor on this one, Both games are going to be epic. This time around the two games are sooooo far apart the only thing they have in common is they are both in the FPS category...... With that said i think they are both a must have.....

Ditto for me. Even though I'm a BF die-hard, I like the tweaks and additions that Ghosts has. I probably won't pick it up right out if the gate, but I'll keep my eye in it.
