Definitely one of the biggest impacts on the military. Huge for the gaming industry as well. RIP Tom, you will be missed.

He wrote a book called Airborne. I was at Ft Bragg when he was writing it and we did a jump and static display for him. I didn't get to meet him but the people that did said he was a great guy and signed all of their books. Big loss.

I worded that poorly. Just a huge social impact on the military. Always writing some intense stuff. He was a big advocate for military members though.

Off topic,....Do u think that someone in his organization or family will want to take over the video game section of his operation to keep that big $ maker going?? I would think yea, because it would be a great way to keep his LEGACY going!!! I hope so.... :cool:

It's a good question. I'm pretty certain though Tom Clancy's name will remain. Many of us grew up with that stuff. I'm sure Ubisoft will do its best to gain the blessings of his family etc. It would be cool to see his name continue.

Sad times. I have always enjoyed his books and have read most of them 3-4 times each. I especially like the dialogue when the submarine crews are doin their work. I wonder if Hollywood will get around to doing a movie on Without Remorse now.

Well said..... Yea they would really be shooting there self in the foot to not ride this out.... People that are die hard fans love his games and will still buy no matter of who is at the helm.....

I'm pretty sure he probably had almost nothing to do with the games. They were probably just licensed by his agent or something. Maybe the first game in a series got his approval. I could be wrong though

Well, he co-founded Red Storm. So it really depends on the contract when Ubisoft bought it out.

I had been watching this through the talks and production. Jack Ryan is a beast and should have someone great to portray the character. I'm not so sure Chris Pine (Kirk from the the most recent Star Trek movies) will be able to pull it off. That would be like having Pee Wee Herman starring as Thor. At lease with the talks of bringing Vince Flynn's bad ass character Mitch Rapp to the big screen, they initially approached Chris Hemsworth to star as Rapp. but he eventually declined the offer.

Its a completely new story based on the writers interpretation of the character.

I'm torn, as it could be a good casting, but really depends on how they portray him. Ryan isn't Jason Borne, nor is he Rapp. I hope its successful, but I'd rather they bond approach it than just make up stuff when there are so many books to draw from.

Will be equally interesting to see a Rapp novel cinematized......hopefully without the Bourne comparisons.

Yeah that one works. Looks like it could be good. Couldn't quite place if it is based on one of the books; maybe Debt of Honor with the whole economy attack stuff.
