Breaking: Watching C-Span at work. Story just came on that shots were fired outside the Capial building. One officer is confirmed to have been hit. Other reports that some others may have been hit as well. Another unconfirmed report says shots fired inside as well.
Capital is on lockdown.

I wonder if it's the karma police.
Hopefully everyone ends up alright, but I can only imagine this is the work of someone fed up by the shutdown.... Of course I could be wrong and it's best to wait for all the facts to be out before assuming anything, but that would be my first guess.
I can already here 24 hour coverage and a renewed attack on the 2nd Amendment. Also I know we will hear reports about AR15's regardless of the weapon used, I swear they could use a black powder musket or an air soft gun and the news would say AR15.
I'm really sick of these people giving the politicians ammo to use against our right to keep and bear arms.

Maybe I was wrong. Reports are saying now that this started with a car chase so who knows....
This is why I don't put too much stock in assumptions before the facts are out, but it can be a fun game to play.

Yup exactly I really hate when people have to be stupid and shoot things up, maybe there will be another AR 15 shotgun.

Ummm, well an AR-15 shotgun is a real thing: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/mka-1919-shotgun-ar15-style-detail.html?Itemid=0

First that's one of the ugliest weapons I have ever seen. Second we are talking about the "AR-15" from the navy yard shootings. It was a regular everyday shotgun. Not even a tactile version.

I'm well aware of that. (And while ugly, it isn't that ugly). I was just posting it because I've seen a LOT of people go crazy like "There's no such thing as an AR-15 shotgun!!!" Well, yes, actually there is. It just wasn't the shotgun used in the shooting.

A chase that began with a black Lexus ramming a barricade near the White House on Thursday ended 16 blocks away with gunfire on Capitol Hill and the brief lockdown of the U.S. Capitol.
The woman driving the car is believed to be dead, said a federal law enforcement official citing preliminary reports. The official is not authorized to comment publicly.
The driver's identity has not been disclosed. A young child inside the car was not injured.
The incident began about 2:20 p.m. ET, when the driver hit a security bollard blocking Pennsylvania Avenue, a block from the White House.
Terrance Gainer, the Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. Senate, said the driver then led federal authorities on a high-speed chase.
She hit a squad car on Pennsylvania Avenue one block from the Capitol, where an officer was injured, but kept driving until she reached Maryland Avenue and 2nd Street NE, near the Hart Senate Office Building, where the shooting occurred.
Gainer said the driver was shot as she got out of her black sedan.
Gainer said "every indication" is that the confrontation was an isolated incident and not part of a larger threat. "The great news is it is not terrorism related," he told reporters huddled outside the U.S. Capitol.
One Capitol Police officer had suffered non-life threatening injuries, apparently when his squad car was hit by the driver, Gainer said.
He said the woman's vehicle could not have reached the Capitol itself because "there are barricades up all the time."
As the chase unfolded, members of Congress and staff were told by Capitol police to "immediately shelter in place." Less than an hour later, a TV screen in the Senate press gallery flashed an "all clear" message.
Security was heightened at the White House as a precaution and President Obama was briefed on the incident, according to White House officials.
Larry Murr, a former Louisville resident living in Jacksonville, Fla., was visiting the Capitol building when he heard the gunfire, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported..
"We were standing there, looking at the building, and all of a sudden we heard a pop-pop-pop-pop," he said, saying he thought he heard four to five shots fired in rapid succession.
In a notice distributed by email, the U.S. Capitol Police advised everyone to "close, lock and stay away from external doors and windows."
Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), who was on the balcony off of the speaker's lobby when the gunshots erupted, tells reporters that they sounded like "fireworks."
Rep. Bill Posey (R-Fla.), who was also on the balcony, said he heard "five or six" gunshots.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!" Posey told POLITICO. "Then sirens went off, cops started going everywhere yelling 'get inside, get inside!'"

What a terrible thing to do to your kid. Who in their right mind would think they weren't about to get smoked if they didn't wise up and turtle? You'd have to have a mental or medical condition to let things get to that point, especially with your young child in the car. I guess we'll know more as time goes on, but this really baffles me.
EDIT: Yup apparently a history of mental issues with the mother. She used the car as a weapon, is this the car's fault? (Warning: rhetorical, no need to answer)

Lol I'm gonna try and sound like anti gun turds. So I'm proposing a ban on high end luxury sedans. These are high performance machines that contain way more horse power and torque than is required to drive to work each day.they are responsible for a percentage of wrongful speeding incidents each year. In the wrong hands they are dangerous as seen by the injury to a police officer, and the involvement of an innocent child. We must start federal measures to ensure this can never happen again.

Absolutely ban luxury cars. Restrictions to maximum horsepower and torque. And definite banning of certain models, as no one needs "that much" speed.
More importantly though, they need to immediately ban spoons. Caused more deaths than guns and cars combined.

Oh and for everyone in California and the other "Hippy" run states, you can only have a maximum of 5 cylinders.

Little generous, I think. More like 3 cylinders. Youre getting a little crazy with that 5 cylinder talk.

OK I think we can come to a compromise. Five cylinders is OK, but just rig the engine so you can only use three at a time.

What's the difference between a high end luxury sedan and a porcupine?
The porcupine has pricks on the outside.

Turns out the lady never hit the barricade and her only crime was being in a no parking zone. Based on all the security camera footage she panicked after have 10 or so cops surround her with guns drawn and at least 2 shoved their guns directly against the window. Now several of those cops are suspended for excessive force. If there is enough evidence to suspend them there is enough evidence to charge and convict of at least manslaughter. You can pretty much be guaranteed that the Secret Service already knew she was there and had she really been a threat one of their snipers would have taken her ass out without endangering the kid.
(Not meant as cop bashing for any cops we might have here)

Yeah, Gunnet, my initial reaction to that encounter was that the officers were a bit excessive, and definitely escaladed the situation. But as a cop I would never Monday-morning quarterback there action being that I wasn't there. The Feds do operate under a different rule of engagement when it comes to use of deadly force. If they were suspended then more than likely they will go in front of a grand jury and could be charge for her death. As far as the sniper shooting her if she was a threat, we'll that would have ended even worse then it did. I was a Sniper in the Marine Corps and I've done many test fires through all kinds of glass, especially car windows. I can tell you for a fact that firing a 308 round through a car window two things happen. First thing is the round almost always changes direction so with a child in the back that would not be safe. Second, the brass casing over the projectile rips apart when it goes through glass and makes like shrapnel and would be unsafe for a child in the car, plus all the glass, yeah, no good!! From what I've read they didn't know there was a child in the back until it was over. If that's true they are really lucky the child wasn't hurt. We will see how it plays out though!!

I will say this I did not know that a .308 could be deflected that seriously or the copper jacket damaged that much by auto glass. Only time will tell how this case will turn out. Lady was obviously crazy for not following the guards orders to step out of her vehicle after she refused to leave the no parking zone. Cops "seemed" to overreact but like you said we were not there so who knows.
I have the utmost respect for cops since my whole family is a bunch of cops. I chose not to become a cop cuz I don't have the temperament. I am not as level headed as other people in my family.
