wireless router for gaming

Ok, so my new house will be done in November, I have cat-5 run to all places were a TV will be. but will also have wireless for computers and other things. So my tech head brothers and sisters tell what to buy, so I can get the jump on these 12 yr shit talkers.

Why would you use a wireless router to game?

The only person you'll be kicking, is your own ass lol.

If you have cat five ran through out the house, why not use what have for a direct connection.

Also, if you want to go a different route, you can do a 1 Port Powerline adapter kit.

Well if you've got wired as an option, forget wireless for gaming or for streaming.

There's really no such thing as a wireless gaming router IMO, because of the nature of the protocol.

I would recommend a Linksys.

I have one and I have no problems.

If you going to game on a comp, I would never use a wireless router.

I prefer the belkin and then have a wifi extender for the upstairs to make sure there is no spotty coverage.

benefits of my belkin is scheduled maintenance reboots. we all know restarting your router helps, well Belkin allows you to set a time, I chose tuesday and friday at like 3 am.

and I use this extender, but mine has a tiny white lite to show its powered. I picked this one because it sits on the plug or has a cord that comes with it if I want it on a table.

With this setup and only my pc and 360 wired, I can have 3 android tablets on netflix, 2 ipads , play eve on PC and minecraft on 2 360's all at once on 30 mb internet. I dont notice any lag.

Elimnates all the wiring so you don't have to worry about a long ass cat-5 cable and you don't have to worry about wifi.

Crazy to say but you use the power lines of your house and those lines work just like your cat-5 cable.

They had this type of thing for dial up and it wasnt that great but if its working for you I will get it. Whats your internet speed?

I can vouch for the powerline adapter concept if wired is not an option (although technically the powerline is a wired setup too).

I would wager power line is a little slower, but on a fast connection you're not going to notice.

it is a slightly lower speed, but still faster than the ISP speed, the science is simple its copper to copper really. I use Cat 5 or twisted pairs to transport everything at work. cuts down on needs for custom wire or expensive installs.

Im using wifi too and my house only has one phone jack. Yes I know thats stupid, my house was built by a retard anyways I cant run a CAT-5 or ethernet cable to my room unless I run it outside to the 3rd story side where my rooms at. Let me say theres no way in hell I am getting my fat ass on a ladder to run it that high in the air. If this system works shoot Im sold on it and my speed is 5mbps.

Not sure what my internet speed is but I'm running comcast and whatever speed they are giving me, i'm having no issues.

I have no lag and clarity is pretty damn good

While I agree with these guys to go wired for gaming, if your looking for a top notch wireless router, with lots of options for expansion, and better performance then the nubetube routers the kids get from mommy, order yourself an Asus RT-AC66U or 68U.
I have a 66U, and it is so far beyond better then the mainstream companies, there just isn't a comparison.

I would say, the only APs better then the Asus models are gonna be business/enterprise grade - yes, it is that good.

It does come at a premium, expect to pay close to $200, but it IMO is certainly money well spent.

Along the same subject of internet and gaming, I just had to by a new ethernet cord and i was looking at them all and i guess there is a few kinds...Such as cat 5 , cat 5E , and cat 6..Now i read a bunch of stuff about the differences online but what is your guys opinion of what to use for gaming with the new XBOX 1 coming out?? I am having lag issues with my wireless router so i am gonna hook up with a wire now, i got the cat 5E....

The category just has to do with the quality of the wire. Higher is better, but Cat 5 is fine. You probably wouldn't notice much difference with Cat 6.

5e is fine in most applications. I am actually moving to cat 6 now cause I have gigabit everywhere..

Now if only I could get Google fiber or FiOS...

I will be running cat5e in my walls(price) OH YEAH! I will be moving to a new house next month. :D
5e will carry gigabit like 6. Cat6 is also a pain to crimp, that damn plastic separator in the cable.

I currently have cat5e throughout my apartment (along the walls and under the carpet), have gigabit everywhere.

Once again, either is suitable for home application. I'm only doing patch cables in cat 6 and leaving 5e in the walls. Your not running hundreds of nodes for extended distances, so benefits of cat6 are lost in your application.
