Dear Mr. Stud,

For most Americans, next Wednesday — October 23 — will be like any other day. But not for Marines.

On that day, thirty years ago, a truck pulled up to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut. Seconds later, the suicide bomber inside detonated explosives equivalent to 12,000 pounds of TNT — collapsing the building and crushing the people inside.

220 Marines died that day, along with 21 other service men and women, and civilians — making the Beirut Barracks bombing the deadliest single day for our Marine Corps since Iwo Jima.

Yet, I bet if you asked most Americans, many of them wouldn’t even know about this tragedy. So we must do our part to show that this terrible attack has not faded from our memories.

Thanks for the posting, Toby.
This remembrance is part of what has me so busy these days. I have been running with Danny Joy the VP of the BVA (Beirut Veterans of America).
Being the 30th anniversary, this is likely the last big one the parents of our fallen will attend.
I will be at a (Beirut) PME in just hours from now, at New River Air Station.
This is going to be probably the biggest ceremony for us. I will post more if and when I get permission. I am busting at the seams to post some interesting stories on this event, but I have to keep my powder dry in respect to the NOK.
The 'Root Scoop' is the online magazine to check for further information. It isn't much but it is run by us Veterans of Beirut.

Did a little meet and greet at the memorial this morning. The old ghosts are coming into town. I am heading back out with the AFMC for a gathering at noon.

This is yesterday's activities. I was out all night (after finishing on the forum with some late night biz) with the Rough Riders supporting the 'Hope for the Warriors' event. The next day started early, some events at 0900 then back to the memorial at 1200.

First pic is of the AFMC (With help from the Rough Riders MC, Crossed Rifles MC). They do this annually. A run to the Beirut Memorial.
Second pic is Craig Renshaw thanking those that participated.

I have been up very early as we have another full day... The pigs have been cooking since around 3 AM for another event at the USO 12-1700. Then another meet and greet tonight. Tomorrow and Wednesday will be just as demanding of my time. I love these 20 hour plus days....

I thought I just post a message of Thanks to all that sent their well wishes. I skipped out on the candle light ceremony this morning to check the forums.
Today, I will be at the Remembrance Ceremony at 1030, and they are putting me in the VIP seating. I wasn't a hero and have no significance as far as history or this event is concerned. I just survived my time there. That doesn't warrant VIP in any regards.
This is the first since 86 or 87... who the hell knows. Most of the names I heard here the last few days are foggy to me, but the faces are so familiar.

Yep, it was a great honor. I believe he got his Purple Targets (Hearts) in Vietnam. He was involved in the fighting in the city of Hue. He is a pure class act. Soft spoken, great sense of humor and didn't use his notoriety as a front. He was another Beirut Vet sharing some memories with us. In fact he remained anonymous to most in attendance at the events of the week. I was star struck more so than other celebs I have met, probably because of the common bond we have.
