VA Exec pleads the 5th on wasteful spending before congress.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is under investigation for wasteful spending after at least $6 million was spent on lavish conferences to train human resources workers in 2011. Taxpayer money went to crucial projects, like a $50K spoof of the movie “Patton.”

John Sepulveda, former assistant secretary for HR at the VA, declined to answer any of Congress’ questions today, citing his Fifth Amendment rights.

Retired Gunnery Sergeant Jessie Jane Duff is on the organizing committee for Concerned Veterans for America. She told Megyn Kelly tonight on The Kelly File that Sepulveda is “spineless” and “repulsive.”

“How could he do this to the 22 million veterans that are out there that fought for the freedom that he has, for him to get up there and declare the Fifth Amendment,” Duff said. “We sit back and we’re all appalled. We would get thrown in the brig when we’re on active duty – there was no option to declare the Fifth Amendment.”

Duff called for Sepulveda to be held accountable for wasting taxpayer dollars as veterans are backlogged, waiting for their benefits.

50k on a spoof of Patton? How does that help? How many veterans could be helped with the 50 mil a year in bonuses? The 6.1 mil for 2 conferences for 1800 people? That's just shy of $3,400.00 per person. Those 2 conferences alone cost the VA an additional 78 employees. The bonuses, 641 employees. (Based off of median government salary reported by washingtontimes.com) So those 719 additional workers couldn't help decrease the backlog more effectively? I HATE MOST GOVERNMENT EXECS! Why does this president not fire people for incompetence, fraud, waste, abuse, negligence and straight up Douchbaggery? Agggh, End of current ranting.

Mike and anyone else this applies too, I don't mean to offend anyone that's employed, affiliated, helps and works along side with the folks at the veterans administration. We all know our government and that agency have some major issues that need to be fixed. I didn't mean any ill will to those that are there helping and grinding day in and day out like Mike. It's the politicians and the people up top that abuse their positions and walk all over the veterans and those that help them. If anyone is offended by my views I'm sorry. We are all entitled to our opinions and we live in a country we all sacrificed for to have the freedom to have different views. (Even though the NSA is trolling us)

I apologies Brian, I was being Sarcastic as usual. I, as many here, do appreciate the posts and information you are getting out to the Members and General Public. I am sure there good folks that work for the VA (I just haven't run into them yet <-- more sarcasm).
