That's a good question, are people able to apply just like BF3?

I noticed a change had been made to the PS3 platoon. There is a little tick box that says allow people to apply. This option had been disabled. It is now changed, so leaders for 360 and PC may want to check this option

Ok. 360 and PC leaders for BF3 platoons, please login to Battlelog, go to your platoon page, select edit Platoon. Make sure the allow people to apply is checked. Just remember if anyone applies to make sure they are already verified in the community. If they are not, send them the link usmg.us/app-process

Now I know we can't give him a straight up number, and that number is near meaningless anyway as far as being directly related to how many guys are on at any time, but what would be a proper answer to this, e.g. "Enough to fill a squad whenever you need it", etc...?

There are sites that will do it for you for only a fraction of the markup you'd see from Alienware, etc... There's still a markup, but they also usually offer warranties and stuff. I built one of mine a few years ago at cyberpowerpc.com or something like that. They did a great job. Places like that are a great option for people who don't have experienced system builders at their disposal and don't feel confident enough to do it themselves, without the gouging of some of these "gaming" brands.

I've had some odd luck with this). But data storage drives are something that you can also upgrade easily and relatively cheaply whenever you feel you need/want to. PSUs are generally easily replaced/upgraded as well, but there's a lot of cabling to deal with and if you're anal about cable management to begin with, it might be a bit of an undertaking, but not too bad. Plus, people generally don't end up having to upgrade a PSU on a custom build unless they go from a single GPU to tri-SLI or something and didn't design in adequate headroom for that situation.

Processor, mobo, and case are where you'll generally want to go ahead and throw extra cash for futureproofing (and CPU cooling whether you're going with H20 or a good air setup), because they're the most difficult to get at and replace. Generally, I build a system keeping in mind that I can upgrade RAM and GPU as necessary, and when the proc or mobo becomes a source of bottlenecking, I get rid of the system. Back when I used to be frugal with my build as far as the mobo/CPU goes, I was having to look to build a new system more regularly to keep up with the times. This last time, I went ahead and got a better CPU/mobo combo, and I'm far from having games stress my CPU even two years in, and I expect it to stay that way for a while.

You shouldn't have to change OS over the life of a gaming computer if you part it out/upgrade/sell it once it starts to lag behind the curve. Plus most games won't have a restriction about not using the last generation of Windows or even two generations back....

Building a rig is very intimidating though and wrecks my nerves every time I do it because I'm ultra paranoid that I'm going to do something wrong and end up with a fireball and a bunch of melted plastic, assed out as there is no warranty or anything.

You're right about the hardware fragmentation aspect though. You don't generally have anywhere near the driver issues and such with consoles. Much easier to develop to one specific set of hardware. TONS easier, and much easier to optimize. When these new gen consoles come out, they'll be nearly on par with today's better gaming PCs. After a few years, we'll be right back where we are with the PS3 versus today's gaming computers. Then it will start all over again.

I built my computer almost 3 years ago and spent $1600 at Comp USA. Took the parts home and built it myself, then took it back to Comp USA for some diagnostics. It's a pretty bad ass rig, and it's really not hard to build one. If you can get in touch with a decent salesperson at a Tiger Direct or a Comp USA, they cam walk you through the process of putting together a computer for what you want to do with it and within a certain budget. I believe they will also put it together for you for a fee, (I think it was $100, but don't quote me on that.) or you could always hire a college techie from craigs list to build you one. There alot of starving college kids out there that are computer savvy and will work for a decent buck.

It's only an ass-pain for me because I've got some OCD and anxiety issues. Don't let my experience put you off from it. It's definitely a quality experience and there are people out there who will put it together for you for real cheap. Some people really love to do it. And places like overclock.net are great places to go to see what builds and deals are great at any given time.... Plus they sort out pretty well which sorts of HW combos to stay away from. I've had mobos that would fail to run some RAM at stock clocks, etc...

Another great thing about building it is you know what's in it. And if you put it together yourself, you'll have no trouble getting around it if you need to check or replace something.

However, if you're the type that doesn't like to follow directions and double-check your work before lighting up, I would not recommend it. Otherwise, if you're thinking about doing it, I say why not.

Agreed. I only had some minor problems building mine. The biggest work is doing the legwork-picking out compatible parts. Then the parts just snap together.

I dont know if I consider that a problem, I'm very happy with the PS4 thus far. Maybe next go, or in a year or so i'll visit the thought of a PC a bit more.
