Cell phone glass replacement

Anyone ever replace the glass on a cell phone themselves? I swapped out my protective case for a sweet looking phone cover and it fell out of my pocket shattering the glass. I watched a YouTube video of someone doing it but I'm nervous because in the video he says he ruined the first one he tried to do. I have insurance on my phone but the deductable is $175, a local cell repair shop said they'll do it for $125, or a replacement kit on the Web is $11.95 with tools.

Anyone ever try this or should I just pony up and pay the deductable for a new phone? It's a Samsung Galaxy S4 if anyone's curious.

I have never ripped one apart to do a glass replacement, but have taken many apart for other reasons. There are some decent tear down guides on http://www.ifixit.com/

I've had some friends who had. Some are way easier (and cheaper) than others. Don't know about replacements on a GS4 though.

My wife dropped her windows phone cracking the screen, and I took it to the local "Device Support Center". If the device is new enough (like your GS4), you give them $100 and they give you a new phone. Cheaper, and less of a headache then a screen replacement.

I'm on Tmobile, I'll call and see if they have something similar. I just have a hard time spending so much $ for something that costs $10 to do yourself. But at the same time I don't want to ruin a $600 because I wanted to save some money.

What type of phone is it. I have done replacements on all types, Andriod and iPhone, as well as tablets. Tell me the phone model and I will do some research, hell, if it is easy enough just send me the phone and the replacement parts and I will get it fixed up for you.

EDIT* If it is a Samsung Galaxy S4 which I am assuming it is, that looks to be an easy replacement. I would say DIY but as I said I have been fixing them for years. And that is a valid offer, I will replace it for you, you just have to send me the phone and the parts.

I watched a guy do one on his iPhone while I was in the desert. It didn't seem too bad, you just had to take your time doing it. Like Sam said ifixit has some great instructions.

I've done it before but it's a pain in the ass, if it's a iPhone 5 series your better off going to apple and paying them 250 dollars for a replacement phone, which I did 2 weeks after getting the iPhone 5s, dropped mine and it got
