Connection problems

I have a HP Pavillion 15 e072sa, running windows 8.1. I have had the laptop for a little over two months with no problems. For some reason today it just refuses to connect to the internet. I haven't messed about with any settings or changed anything since it was working last.Any other devices at home connect with no problems. My main browser is Google Chrome. I can see that I am getting a full signal and it say that I am connected but I can't get onto any websites at all, every time I get a message saying "webpage is not available". I checked if the network adapter is working in Device Manager and it is, I disabled the firewall & anti-virus and tried..no luck. I have tried connecting by ethernet cable..no luck, rebooted the laptop a number of times..no luck. Went to a friends home and tried it there..no luck. But for some reason I am able to get online with skype and yahoo. I switched over to internet explorer but can't get online with that either.
I have projects due for college on Monday and I really need this fixed so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Is it using a proxy for no reason? Sometimes my computer would randomly decided it wanted to use a proxy when none was set up, and it would not let me access the internet. Can you post the details from the error message?

Sounds like you aren't resolving DNS.

Try going to Start --> Search --> Type : CMD (Make whatever changes you need if necessary for Win 8.1)

A box should open : Type ping google.com

You should see something similar to below:

If it doesn't work, trying pinging by the IP : 74.125.225.6
You should get a similar output, as above.

Let me see the output, after you try the above.

I had a problem with my hp laptop on windows 8. I had full internet connection but it wasn't letting me on Mozilla Firefox. I checked my firewall and it seemed fine. So I googled it on my phone and found out that my anti-virus program for some reason blocked the connection between Internet and Firefox.

The anti virus programme I am using is Norton, so if it's not anything else, try looking in your anti-virus programme and see if it's blocking it. Norton has it's own firewall settings as well as windows, so i had to unblock it via Norton.

It's all sorted now. I removed the battery and help the power button for 10 seconds to drain any excess, rebooted my modem and tried again.
Problem fixed. In other news....I bought a PS4....(quite possibly the only one left in any Dublin store.)
