So I've bout had it with windstream internet it's literally the worst you could ever have, what are some good providers out there? It is in deed time for upgrade

Well it depends on where you are. Not all services are available all over. I have TWC and it does the job. I have heard great this about FIOS as well.

I never had any problems with Comcast or FiOS.

I have TWC (only option for me), and it's usually pretty good. But the last two days it's been unstable - dropping connection every few minutes, then randomly coming online again which made it hell to play games or watch videos

I've had Comcast forever. U-Verse also had fiber in my area, but a physical medium can only do so much for shitty layers above that. Speeds were unimpressive, especially on the upload side, but it's been several years.

Everybody's support sucks from my experience (so no one gets the advantage there), but I haven't tried FiOS. What would one need faster connections than what Comcast offers? One thing you have to watch out for with them (Comcast, and probably others) is exactly how heavily shared your connection is. That can make a big difference. I've had some friends with Comcast who have had a heavily burdened line, and others who routinely saw their advertized speed. I guess it's luck of the draw there.

In this area, Comcast is actually rolling out a firmware update for their modems/routers which will allow them to double as public hotspots. I don't have details on whether or not they'll have a separate external IP, but from what I've heard, the customer will still have to pay 100% of the install/purchase/rental fee for this equipment. Yes you can opt out (or just use your own router), but it just seems like a seriously douchy move to not waive those fees, or at least substantially reduce them.

Yeah most of them suck, especially cause even in mid-sized cities there's often few choices. I believe fiber connections are not as subject to sharing slowdowns, so you get more consistent speeds. And a 25MBps connection isn't fast enough to stream FullHD all the time...But 100MBps is, and 1 GBps certainly is...

This. Not only are not all services available, but they radically differ in service. Some people on the east coast hate Comcast, but out here it was amazing.

I don't get twc in my area I'm right out the limits but windstream isn't doin it for me anymore my connection has been goin in and out a lot recently but I'll look into Fios

I thought that as well but Seattle was under serious consideration in the past and Microsoft isn't making a bing fiber line so no conflict. It's prob all the bureaucracy and red tape. Either way...Lame

When I was at hood I had twc it was ok but could've been better. Since moving right outside of Austin I use att now and haven't been happier.

Heck be grateful for 30mbps. We are supposed to have 20Mbps for $50 here but the best I've seen so far is 11Mbps. We joke that our internet is run by hamsters running in wheels. Well today we upgrade to Ferrets for 100+ so cross your fingers we may get 20Mbps out of the 50 they say we'll get
