Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games are planning to unveil the "new era" of Call of Duty on Sunday.
Sledgehammer tweeted out (https://twitter.com/SHGames/status/461893781265342464) the announcement, saying "[a new era] of Call of Duty arrives May 4th." In addition, the Call of Duty Twitter account (https://twitter.com/callofduty) changed its cover image to a photo of what looks like the Golden Gate Bridge with billowing smoke behind it, along with text claiming a "world reveal" is happening this weekend. And to complete the trio of teases, the franchise's official website (http://www.callofduty.com/new-era#.U2JtBeImw_0.twitter) has a countdown timer for the unveiling.


Earlier this year, Activision announced (http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/06/sledgehammer-games-developing-2014s-call-of-duty-release) Sledgehammer Games as the developer of this year's Call of Duty, while also revealing that the franchise is now being developed on three-year cycles between three teams: Sledgehammer, Infinity Ward, and Treyarch. "There are several advantages to doing this," the publisher said at the time. "The first is, of course, quality. This will give our designers more time to envision and to innovate."

According to Amazon, aside from improving a soldier's "battle readiness," the suits also "eliminate the need for specialization." What this means from a gameplay perspective is still unclear, as the trailer definitely shows off different specialized suits.



"The introduction of this gameplay mechanic delivers enhanced player movement and verticality through boost jumps and grappling, covert cloaking abilities, and biomechanics that provide unparalleled strength, awareness, endurance, and speed," says the listing. We saw some of this in the trailer, and according to the listing, we'll see plenty more of this.

Lastly, Amazon says we can expect new perks, technology, equipment, and vehicles, as well as a new class of "directed-energy weaponry."

I don't think it's copying Titanfall exactly merely heading in the same direction, the future. This games been in production for at least 2 years now and Titanfall has mechs, these look an exoskeleton arguably the precursor to mechs though.

Well as for Elysium, that movie is a new release. This has been in development for over two years so I highly doubt they ripped off Elysium. The helmet, Looks like a knight helmet way more than anything out of Halo. Halo looks like motorcycle helmets anyway. That's not very original.

You guys can hate on it all you want. I've been playing it since CoD 4, and I've enjoyed all of them since. People complain about it not changing enough, but they do! The formula stays about the same, but every new game has it's improvements.

Not really. Most of the issues were crashes which didn't make it unplayable, they were just annoying every couple matches.

An honestly, CoD is so repetitive and stale that even if it were twice as bad, it would still be more fun playing Battlefield through problems (or many other games)

I very rarely have had "constant" crashes. Most complaints I've heard have been crashing in between matches (when most of mine have occured as well). When a match takes 30 minutes (can easily be longer), a crash in between every match doesn't make it unplayable, though it is extremely annoying. I don't know that progress has "regressed", though progress has been very slow (and almost every patch in anything that fixes something does introduce a new, smaller problem. That's programming)


And as for being repetitive and stale......thats just well, not true.

Maybe the campaign isn't? But the campaigns IMO got poorer and poorer. But multiplayer is essentially the same gameplay with minor tweaks. It's more like a DLC than a new game (and I don't defend BF's campaign, for the record. They really should just label it "Multiplayer Tutorial")

There were plans to release a 3rd person shooter, but they were scrapped when half the people at Infinity Ward quit. The team that was working on the game got relocated to Infinity Ward to replace the ones who quit.

I don't think any of those brands had anything to do with the development of the new call of duty. The game has been in development for over 3 years, way before Titanfall and Edge of Tomorrow.

I am pumped for it more than Ghosts. I'm looking forward more to the one coming out next year though. Treyarch makes the best CoDs.

Y'all make sure to pre order and fast, they opened up some special copies to each company, like Best Buy, Amazon, GameStop there was one other but anyway they are releasing them On the 3rd and u get Double XP all day on the 3rd then everyone else gets them the on the 4th so we get them 24 hrs early..... I do know there online stopped offering it already, 1 day sold out, but if u pre ordered thru GameStop already u should have got bumped into the 24 hr advanced slot..... For PSN players go to callofduty.com grab the app for the OS of your choice and then link your PSN account to your CoD account. Search for clans and try US Military Gamers and apply. Won't be a lot of us so when Clan Wars hit we won't be against clans with 150 ppl so if only 1-2 play or all 4-5 or how ever many there are ppl are free to choose when they want to play.

Here is my review of the game: 7/10

The game is random as fuck. The spawns are broken. Everyone is either running around like a chicken with its head cut off or roof camping. I'm glad they're trying something new. However, the movements aren't very accurate or manageable. It is very hard to predict how far my character will dash in a certain direction. It is also difficult to control mid-air movement. It is inaccurate and stiff. You can't control it very well while in mid-air and it is hard to accurately navigate. I thought this feeling would go away after I got used to the movement, but it hasn't. The Exo Movements just plain suck.

After playing the game for about 15 hours, I can't stand Exo movement. I'm sticking to the classic playlist. Just by taking the Exo movement away, I went from hating the game, to moderately liking it. There are still a few things that I feel need to be fixed/pathced (loud footsteps, gun balance, spawns, etc.)

Randomness is good to a certain degree. However, whenever you have the enemy spawning literally out of the building you just walked out of, there is a problem. I have spawned within 5 seconds of where I died and so has enemy players when I kill them. Revenge spawning is not a good thing. There has to be a hint of predictability in order for the game to be enjoyable. Truly random spawning just gets annoying.

And I know I'm ranting here, but this is the last thing I'll say: The developers mentioned that they wanted to get rid of crutch perks (i.e. dead silence and Focus), but they created even worse ones while also breaking the game. Blast Suppressor is probably the most crutch perk EVER in a CoD game. You HAVE to have this perk if you want to remotely have a decent game experience. Otherwise, you will have horrible gameplay. Scavenger is also a very strong crutch perk. Now that reloading drops the rounds in the magazine, you will have to run it in order to go in higher killstreaks.

My biggest complain though, is the footsteps. God, those bitches are loud. I can barely hear myself think when I sprint.

Im actually doing decent on this game. He exo movement is my favorite part, but I am a Halo gamer so Im sure that is a factor. I have just bee slowing down my sprinting and letting the enemies come to me. Seems to be working.

The exo movement I love takes a lil bit to get used to but that nice lil back dash or left or right has saved my butt plenty time. Biggest thing u got to do in this cod. Is slow down the tempo a bit. N let the enemy run around with there head between there legs. But also on top of slowing the tempo down a lil u got to keep moving if u stay in one spot to long someone going to shoot u between the eyes

I have a short clip up called "What?" Where I was running and a guy suddenly seemed to spawn right out of the wall to my right. Must have startled them as much as it did me.

That's funny!! I've had the opposite! I've been spawn trapped but never spawned then immediately killed be an enemy who spawned right behind me. I don't mind the spawn trap, there are ways out of it, through playing with a team who is communicating. But to spawn right next to an enemy spawning is ridiculous!! It's going to happen in certain game modes such as domination. Because you always spawn in whichever point you control and the enemy is pushing that point usually.

So I have died right after spawning into the game but I always watch the kill cam after to see if the guy was just in our spawn or he spawned behind me. For the most part the guy that killed me was just in the spawn and didn't just spawn in himself. Been trapped a few times!!
I will say this, in kill confirmed there is a revenge spawn still. I have died and spawn real close to where I was killed many times. I have had games where I killed enemy repeatedly because of that, and I can see that becoming annoying!! Lol
