Right now, the military is already getting backlash from the hair style women can wear. They are calling the policies sexist and racist. Additionally, we have people being allowed to grow beards because of religious reasons. The military doesn't discriminate against religions or sexes. All of these claims are against uniformity, which has been part of our heritage for a long fucking time. Dress right, dress. We all look the same.

Now, imagine how bad it is going to get once men/women who truly believe they are the opposite sex are serving in the military. This is much different from gay military members. They know they are males/females. They just like the same sex. Transgender is different though. They are males/females who believe they are the opposite sex. If the trend of saying uniformity is sexist/racist continues, we will likely see transgender military members calling the male/female uniform sexist towards them. We could potentially see a male soldier dressing up in a female's uniform.

The most awkward interaction I ever had as an NCO was to tell a female her mustache was out of regs. I can't imagine the issues this would create.

This reminds me of a discussion we had in psych class, there are cases where prisoners mainly male would go and say that they wanted to be a woman. Then some time in their life being a woman they would want to be a man again, I think they would have to go and do a psych evaluation to make sure that they are really gender confused and not just a pervert.

With all the shit going on right now in the military (draw downs, aircraft cuts, budget), this is the last thing they need to worry about right now. There would be a non stop claim of harassment because if a chick looks like a dude and I call her ma'am (or visa verse), well guess I'm going to EO. I'm not sure about the other services, but there are different uniforms for men and women in the Air Force. Its's not drastic, but it's enough that people will know the difference. If a "guy" is wearing a female uniform cause he thinks he is female, then there will be issues.

DADT was one thing, but this is a different monster.
