SHOOTOUT FOR SOLDIERS

Last month in Baltimore there was a charity 24 hour lacrosse game that raised over $121,000.00 for the Wounded Warriors Project. On July 24th there is another game in Long Island, NY. At 9:00 am the event will be started off with a Veterans game which I will be playing in!! But, they need more vets to participate. Anyone, interested go to this link: sign up for the Vets game!!

Ages of participants will range from 8-70, so don't worry about your age, shit I'm 41 and playing. It's a great cause and a lot of fun. The game will also be televised.
So if your in the area the game will be at Field of Dreams in Massapequa, NY. If you can't go then at least check out the website, or pass on the word to someone who may want to participate. You can give donations also if you like. I'm considering wearing a GoPro camera but we will see. I'll at least post some picks. The NY Lizards will be there as coaches and some of them will be playing!!

Yeah, I am really looking forward to it!! Unfortunately for me most of the guys I played with are not veterans except for one. And I talked him into playing. The organizers sent me an email saying they need more veterans for the vets game. I was really surprised but I'm sure it has to do with getting the word out. I only found out about it by searching for club teams to play on for the summer!! This event is being held 3 miles from my house which is awesome.

Yeah the only reason I heard about it was cause they sent an email to my college coach about wanting people to sign up.. If I wasn't a hell of a trek from where the next one is, I'm definitely be down to play in it again

Since I haven't played organized lax in like 20 years I needed to buy some equipment. I ordered a custom helmet with some USMC colors. Going to throw on some decals as a tribute!!

Yeah, it goes fast!! Keep playing though, don't do what I did!! Find a way because you will miss the shit out of it.
I will post some pics on this thread of the helmet once I set it up!!

Yeah, the CPXR was a little expensive so I went with this one. It nice and so much lighter than what I played with in my day!! Lol!!

No, it's the CPVR!! The difference is the padding on the inside, and it's about $120.00 cheaper!!!

I like it a lot, really comfortable!! Can't wait to get on the field again and try it out!! Been practicing to get up to speed but having trouble with my right hand because I broke it a couple of years ago. Dr. Said the hand would be weaker but I didn't think throwing a lacrosse ball would be painful. My shot definitely lost some velocity but still able to hit the corners so we will see!!

Are you watching the world lacrosse championship? Team USA has walked over everyone they've played, as expected. They are playing Canada in the final but was hoping the Iroquois Nationals would have beaten Canada so I can see the Thompson brother play again. Those guys are unbelievable!!

Are you watching the world lacrosse championship? Team USA has walked over everyone they've played, as expected. They are playing Canada in the final but was hoping the Iroquois Nationals would have beaten Canada so I can see the Thompson brother play again. Those guys are unbelievable!!

I've been keeping tabs on it, but ever since the US whooped on canada I haven't followed as closely.. I did watch the Iroquois canada game last night though, I gotta say having watched the Thompson brothers both at Albany and here, while they're absolutely incredible, I think they sort of become a detriment sometimes, they almost seem to take on too much if you catch my drift.. On the same note, watch between the legs and BTB goals are exciting to watch haha

There reputation as big play makers just hurts them now because they get swarmed by defenses whenever they have the ball. They don't have the size to handle that. That's why, in my opinion anyway, Rabil is such a beast. He is great with his stick, he can shoot with a shit load of velocity, and accurate, and he has the size which makes him pretty much unstoppable!! I will still watch team USA beat up on Canada tomorrow night!!

It's funny cause Rabil was sort of out of the spotlight for a bit, and these world championships have just reminded everyone how much of a different level he is on

Fun fact, I played in the same youth program as him, he's from about 20mim down the road from my hometown haha

Yeah, that guy is a monster on the lacrosse field. Just looking at him is intimidating!! His face goes right up against his face mask, it's like he needs a custom made helmet! Lol

Let me ask you since you've played D1 lax. How are these guy winning face offs with the ball in the back of their stick?? Is it the narrow heads allowing the ball to get wedged in there when they clamp down first?

Pretty much, even with the restrictions on head width and such, face off-only guys ( we call em FOGOs, face off get off) use mesh and stringing patterns that purposefully push out from the sidewalls when push opposite of how the pocket should normally be. Because of this though, you used to see a lot of guys clamp the ball in the back, then run around with the ball stuck and it won't come out.. This led to an NCAA rule that just get essentially two "shakes" of the stick to flip the ball out and into the stick normally before you're given an illegal procedure call

Yeah, I can't believe how laid back they were playing. It's not like it was a world championship or anything. They wait until 5 minutes left to start pressing on defense when your down in goals. Once they started being more aggressive they scored 3 goals. I didn't get that game plan at all. The US coaches said they new Canada was going to slow the game down with long possessions. So why not pressure to cause turnovers to counter that. Frustrating to watch, especially when they dominated the whole tournament!!

Yeah I was gettin pretty upset watching the game.. Rabil and Pannell literally couldn't do anything either, and we got smoked on groundballs.. Canada simply outplayed us.. The FIL needs to consider a rules change on stalling and clearing times though, holy crap it was ridiculous at times

We definitely got outplayed. The Canadians had a better game play and executed it perfect. Plus there goalie is a beast!! Made some ridiculous saves like stuffing Rabil one on one!! Lol!! If the Americans played more of an aggressive style they would have won that game in my opinion.
