A man has filed a $10 million lawsuit against ESPN and its announcers, among others, for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, contending he was mocked while caught sleeping in his seat during a national telecast at Yankee Stadium.

Andrew Robert Rector admits in court documents he "napped" during a Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees game on April 13, but says commentators Dan Shulman and John Kruk unleashed an "avalanche of disparaging words" against him. The suit says they used words like "fatty" and "stupid."

Rector says he suffered "substantial injury" to his "character and reputation" and "mental anguish, loss of future income and loss of earning capacity."

The lawsuit filed in Bronx Supreme Court Thursday also names ESPN New York, Major League Baseball Advanced Media and the Yankees as defendants.

"The comments attributed to ESPN and our announcers were clearly not said in our telecast," an ESPN spokesperson said. "The claims presented here are wholly without merit."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Oh man this is killing me, I hope he gets nothing but bills from his lawyer. How much was that Ticket? Red Sox Vs Yankees, there is no such thing as a cheap seat even this season. This dude should have just let it go. If a jury or judge awards him damages they should be slapped.

He's like third row, so add that in to the price.

They replayed all the commentary this morning on the radio. Utterly hilarious, and completely baseless just for the simple fact that they never once say what he alleges, and barely even imply it. He's basically suing the commentators for what the YouTube and Facebook commenters are saying. Dude needs to be bitchslapped, pure and simple.

This is getting ridiculous. Someone is always trying to get money for something. I even read something about a lady that ran over and killed a kid on a bicycle and is trying to sue the victims family for her having nightmares. The shit people do is so dumb.

Your right Justin, that's all he wants is money, and it's not 10 million he's after. It anything!!! He is just using this opportunity to put a few dollars in his pocket. He and his scumbag lawyers are hoping for a quick settlement just like every other mutt in NYC. Oh, yeah, Dave, I would bet that he didn't buy those tickets for where he was sitting. Those seats are all owned by corporations. He was either given the tickets or was allowed to go down there by someone he knows who works at the stadium.
