Where do I go to get 14 day weekends? I've got staff duty tomorrow so lots of time to start a resume.

Make sure you get your A&P before you get out and contact me when that time comes.. most helicopter companys here in the gulf work on a 14 day on and a 14 day off policy.. its AWESOME!!!! i love my job..

Haha, yeah as you get used to forums, especially these ones, you will notice how quickly we can change topics!

I have been looking at A&P licensing Craig. I just really want to get out but all my experience is in fighters... I don't think helicopters would be an easy transition.

ok dude,,, i was talking to UH1FE about that very same thing..there are some great schools that you can get ur license and trust me.. a A&P means you can work on anything!! helo's or airplanes..your licences is not specific it a generalized license.. hence why its so hard to pass.... in the end a bolt is a bolt and sheet metal is sheet metal.. and most company's will hire with no experience on that airframe cause they update their airframes all the time and have local schooling.. and with your mil background and a license means they will hire you..

Agreed, I was talking to a production Manager for Gulfstream's G650's last night and he pretty much told me the same thing. It's nice in this current state of the Army and the Kiowa community to have a back up plan. I'm expecting a pink slip within the next couple of years.

I just left a unit that had civilian maintenance and some of the guys came straight from active duty flighters to civilian helo's. It takes a little to adjust to a different mind set and way of flying but its not huge. Maintenance is maintenance just follow your tech data and you will be fine.

Also if you are interested a lot of flight schools now accept the post 9/11 gi bill. Covers flight training from private to certified flight instructor. It only takes a year to year and a half. You also get an AA out of it from a college. I plan on using my gibill for A&P and flight training. Flight training first since it's way more expensive and what ever I have left for A&P since compared to flight training it's cheap. This way no matter what company I go to I can cover both sides of flying.

Sounds like a good plan to me.
