VA Compensation

Hey guys sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I see a lot of activity here and I figured this is my best chance to have my question answered.
So I am now receiving VA compensation for my illness. I've been found at 70% and I am perm med retired. Is this compensation for as long as Im alive? Or only for so many months or years? Ive tried to talk to the VA but they said they cant answer anything till my official letter comes in. So any thoughts?

The 70% is until you are found to have more or less. I was rated at the same through the VA. This can be changed. After what I have been told is 20 years of receiving the comp is when it will be permanent. It can be raised or lowered.

It can be raised or lowered depending on your condition. If you get better it can go down and if you get worse it can go up. The important part is if it is temporary or permanent and your letter should say that. Temporary doesn't actually have a time limit per se it just means it's subject to reevaluation. Also, if your percentage is at a certain point you may be bumped up to unemployable. That has different rules. Perhaps someone else here could give you better advice but that's my understanding and how mine works.

I am of the feeling that, I would want to see your award letter too. A couple of the members have given you some of the basics. IU (Individual Un-Employability) requires a few hoops (criteria) to be jumped to see if you qualify. The permanent nature of you disability compensation has rules 5, 10 and 20 year rules... All rules too long to post here

In short (and once again) someone trained in advocacy would have to get eyes on you award letter.
I love many in the VA, BUT.... I suggest that you seek a Veterans Organization independent of the VA for assistance. Such as... VFW, MOPH, DAV, American Legion, AMVETS, to name a few. I can assist in getting you contact information for an independent group in your area if you need me to. Just let me know.
