Can't Fix Stupid-Going to rant for a bit

I am going back to college as many of you know and had a recent discovery. I am now 1000% sure I could never be a college professor. I could not deal with that amount of stupid and not go to prison for murder.

I am in my 6th term and in the final week of Game History and Project Management and Assessments I classes and still seeing fellow students turn in projects they have had a month to do with basic mistakes.

Using "there" instead of "their", small things, but this far into the course it counts. In Orientation we had to attach a photo to our profile as part of the process to get a A+ grade. It was a simple way to get students to take the time to learn how to use the new interface. Half the people in my class don't have profile pics, if you don't put in the effort then what makes you think a company will when you graduate.

6 terms of APA formatting and still people submitted final projects with just hyperlinks with out APA style. I don't get it. end of rant

What's funny to me is all the resources kids today have at their fingertips, making things like this so much easier. Remember when we had to use a dictionary to check the spelling or definition of a word? Remember having to physicallysift through the APA book to figure out exactly how things should be set (as opposed to googling for millions of clear cut examples)?

I also could not be a professor. I would fail each and every kid that failed to do the simple/easy stuff, Cobra Kai Mercy-is-for-the-Weak style.

The problem most people have is procrastination. We leave just enough time to finish a project, but not enough time to revise it.

It's also up to the professor to start handing out grades accordingly and not merely push them along to keep their pass/fail ratio high

To tell you the truth I have never used APA in any of my classes it has always been MLA. Besides that you have no idea on how stupid people are these days I'm only 24 and I can say we are in deep shit when this generation takes over.

I do agree some people are just stupid and lazy........but I hate MLA/APA! A link directly to the damn web page is so much simpler. Buuuuuuut if the class uses APA then use GOD DAMN APA!

We had to write our final from the point of an industry insider and NOT I repeat NOT as players or consumers. As of today I have peer reviewed 10/10 from the player and consumer POV about issues ranging from f2p to dev studios closing and pubs like THQ closing.

Well same topic just a different group of people. Myself and another NCO where talking to a former soldier of our who was working as a contractor. Let's just say this kid has a history of being a Dumbass. This day he is showing us the Mazda RX-8 he just bought. Talking it up to is even though the other NCO has already had the exact same one for a few years. Well than his Special-ness kicks into over drive and he starts telling is how awesome the car drives after you push the "Drift" button and it goes into "Drift" mode. We just stared at him trying to figure out what he was talking about until he finally pointed at the Traction Control Button found in most modern cars these days. SMH! Before that he had a Colorado/Canyon and would talk about how powerful the V8 felt. One day during his POV inspection I mentioned that it didn't sound like a V8 and he was offend and opened up the hood to prove me wrong. He was showing me a V6, I had to make him count spark plug wires and exhaust pipes coming from the cylinder heads before he started to believe me that it was not a V8. Facepalm

Let me add that we had to fire him from his job for not being able to perform in his MOS. We had to have him work in parts supply for the deployment. The civilian company that hired him never checked with any of us before they hired him.

I just started school last week after being out of the classroom for 6 years. In my english there are about 5 kids doing running start (college classes while still in high school) and we had to waste 10 minutes of class because none of them are being taught Roman Numerals. So after seeing that I don't blame the kids for being dumb (just lazy) I blame a lot of the teachers that are out there now, that don't care about the student and only want the rent paid.

Its just generational things though. I work for the army and its sad that I know more about computer programs that are literally older than I am almost (DOS based). While some of you guys are cringing at kids not knowing roman numerals, I laugh because it has only been useful for me in telling time in old clocks and Superbowls. I am the youngest one by ten years in my department and I have to do show guys how to use a program correctly, manage their own time cards, put together proper price quotes, etc etc etc on the computer. There are younger people who do not know how to spell and write a cohesive paragraph, but there are just as many older people who cannot either. When your 65 year old boss has to ask the 32 year old how to use Google. There is a lot more to learn in schools today than there was when I was in school, and I am sure there was even less before me. History keeps getting longer. Using computers efficiently is a skill barely being taught when I was in school. Science has expanded from when I was in school. Math is more important today than it ever was. All being taught by people who have to teach higher numbers of kids per class every year onm budgets that are not expanding. The standards need to be enforced, but who generation will be the one to take the first hit.

Just remember, you may be more skilled in one area, but it doesn't mean you are skilled in every area. Then again, there are a lot of dumb ass kids out there. :)

The days of a classical education are gone, especially in public schools. There are not enough teachers, they are underpaid and under appreciated. They must walk on eggshells out of fear of some student saying they looked at them cross eyed. Believe me the problem is much deeper than simply the students
