Navy Medal Help!

Hey guys, my grandfather passed away a couple days ago and we are preparing for is services. We recently received copies of his Navy Awards with updated service records. The local Congressman's office was a huge help to my Mother in getting this for him. We also have his original ones with the plastic coating on them. My issue is trying to figure out the ribbon on the right in this attached photo. I can't find it in any obsolete or replaced ribbons list. I assume it is legit since all of it has been pretty much untouched since 1946. He almost never took it out except as he started getting older. Myself and my wife are the only ones he would even really talk about the war with.7129

So what was it, I know the one before last, left to right, is Navy Occupation, and I see an Asia device on the medal. But I cannot locate the last one? I am intrigued...

I'm still trying to find out the one on the right from the original medals, the one with the Asia Device is the Navy Occupation Medal from his time on Japan(Nagasaki and Okinawa) after the war ended.

Sorry I misread your post that one in the new medals is the Philippine Liberation Medal.

This is the one I need help with.7136
That has to be the Occupation ribbon (see the medal.. compare it). The ribbon being so old has either faded or became unraveled in the middle. Just my guess.

Actually upon further review... it looks like two Occupation ribbons with the one at the very end being upside down....

For how old they are all but the one by it self, in really good shape. The outside is coated in plastic. I guess it could be a different version of the occupation medal that someone put on that rack along the way.

The biggest surprise to me was the comparison between the amount of ribbons he has Vs hope many you see on guys now a days. I'm not trying to start shit or talk crap but those guys did some things I'm not sure we could pull off in this day and age.

Thanks for the info Mike. They did this for months without telling me or asking about it. I could have saved them plenty of work, it did work out for the better though. We hot updated modern versions of his records, not the hand written chicken scratch we had. They also got him the certificates for the Philippine medals and were going to present him everything in a ceremony Tuesday. They even flew him a flag over the State Capital. I hope they do this all the time and not just on election years.

The other one has the same colors like BigFreeze99 said, however is a bit different from Navy Occupation as it has a white stripe in the middle dividing the black and red, something Navy Occupation doesn't have. It almost looks like the last part on the right of the ribbon had a color...

Nope, just 3 years active duty during the war.
