I'm a guy who loves to read as does my girlfriend. We are looking to broaden our horizons to some new books and authors. So I thought why not create a thread where people can review and rate books and authors. Try and add a photo of the cover if you would.

My addiction got so bad i had to stop for years.. i read everything... my dad got me hooked.. i hated reading as a kid so he paid me to read Mouse and the Motorcycle.. 5 cent a page.. the 25 cent a chapter.. needless to say after a couple sets of book series he stopped paying me.. then as a child i read probably one of the hardest books to read... Frank Herbert Dune.. this blew my mind.. i branched out and read mostly fantasy and SciFi.. anything D&D or the such.. my Fav as a kid.. the original Dragon Lance Series.. by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman .. The Chronicles Trilogy..1.Dragons of Autumn Twilight 2.Dragons of Winter Night 3.Dragons of Spring Dawning... i loved anything dragons.. my mom got me in to Anne McCaffrey ...Dragonriders of Pern.. big ass series.. and then started to read some classic Piers Anthony ...pretty much started with the Xanth series and rolled in to his other series..great author!!.. by the time i left for Boot.. i left at my grandparents storage..about 20 boxes 6 foot high full of books.. i told her to get rid of them and donate them ... ive always had a book.. traveling or just sitting by the bed.. i read books and comics.. and now that i have a tablet and a Nook E reader..i back at it... ive got a E-book collection about 75 gb's... right now ive got mostly starwars books loaded in my e reader.. ive gotten used to reading them on it .. way easier to read and carry and keep all my books..

Raymond Feist's Magician series and RA Salvatore's Drizzt series were pretty bad ass. I loved the Dragon Lance series too. If you read any Horror the Necroscope series is great.

Raymond Feist's Magician series and RA Salvatore's Drizzt series were pretty bad ass. I loved the Dragon Lance series too. If you read any Horror the Necroscope series is great.

Yes ive read all of Raymond Feist and RA Salvatore's stuff .. hahaha i love their stuff.. Drizzt was the bomb!!!.. not big in to horror but i might check it out... i like alot of Ed Greenwood stuff.. he wrote the Spellfire series.. very progressive and before his time..

The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell is a great read. I just finished it a few weeks ago.

I read star wars...a lot of variation in quality there.

The inheritance cycle (Christopher Paolini) is good (fantasy)

The Enderverse (Orson Scott Card)...a lot of good stories other than the main novel (Ender's Game)

There are some Halo novels that provide interesting backstory as well.

The best nonfiction military book I've read is Not a Good Day to Die (can't remember author, but it deals with Operation Anaconda)

I read the whole Necroscope series and can say it's awesome shizzle.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is really good too.

Anything by Joe Abercrombie.

Ben Aaronovitch's Peter Grant books are great, I'm currently reading the latest one.

I really enjoyed The Remaining Series (apocalyptic type world and the main character trys to rebuild whats left) by D.J. Molles and I just finished the Iron Druid series (pretty good series, magic, action, and adventure. Kinda like the Desden Files)

The order of the series is different from the release date of the date of the books. I have and can share them in epub format.

I highly recommend author Peter F. Hamilton and his series based in the common wealth. You have the first two books which are Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained. It then goes into the void trilogy and then their are two new ones that have come out that I am reading. The one I am reading now is called THE ABYSS BEYOND DREAMS. They are considered space opera books but I look at it as books that look at what the future realistically could be. Each book is 500-700 pages. I really enjoy his writing style because it bounces around a little making it seem like a sorta mystery and brings all the different story lines together into awesome conclusions toward the end of the books. They say they are different stories but since they are all in the same universe and use all the same characters it all ties together in an awesome way. I would not recommend just skipping to some of the later series as you will be lost without the beginning information.

They're good - especially Fall of Reach and the Forerunner saga. The Kilo-Five trilogy is pretty lame - I'm sure spyder will elaborate, don't care to right now. Haven't read broken circle yet.

And then there's the Kilo-Five trilogy, which is a pile of horseshit bathed in vomit and presented as a novel.

Basically, Karen Traviss ruined another franchise.

The mot of the Star Wars ones I read, the less I hate Traviss. Some are too overly Mando-loving, but most aren't bad.

Kilo-Five's blatant change of a major subplot, however...not a fan at all.

Peter V Brett's Demon Cycle are really good, The Warded Man, The Desert Spear & The Daylight War...fourth book will be published very soon.
It's a world where at night different elemental demons come up from the earth (wood, rock, fire, wind..etc) and people hide in their homes behind
wards(magic symbols). One guy gets tired of hiding and wants to fight back, so he goes looking for the old wards that were lost.
There are hints here and there that it might even be set far into our future. A great series you should check out.

I got the latest Halo book (Broken Circle), but haven't read it yet.
