Community Game Night

With the lack of activity, mostly due to "horrible game slump", I've decided to do a game night with free online board games and such to allow all (pc, xb, ps) members that have a pc (good or crap) to get to know each other. Let's call it a team building exercise/outreach event.

Now what do I need from you guys:
1.) Participation - give this event a chance... attend.

2.) Socialize - invite everyone. Friends, family, people who might be interested in the usmg, or who just want to have fun with some easy games.

3.) Spread the word - I don't know everyone and we all know there are some people who don't check the forums.

I do not have a set day of the week for this yet because I wanted all your wonderful inputs.

Except yours freeze.... you dirty old man. Lol

I think vent would be the better option to communicate rather than Skype. I'd be down for this but just depends when it is due to stupid time zone bullshit! :)

Hmmm, about that.. I canceled the vent server, because it was just not getting used.
If we want to fund it again, I would like to have assurances we are gonna actually use it, cause it does cost money to have it.

that is why I suggested vent so it got used but if it's cancelled then maybe we can just stick to Skype or Teamspeak.

Teamspeak still costs money though..

Here's the lowdown from the cheap seats. Our awesome hosts (typefrag) provides both, but we're talking almost $100 a year to have it. We paid it out of our website budget last year, with the expectation that donations would backfill that money. But after the bills were all paid for the next year, we're currently sitting at around 200.00 for the next full year. If memory serves me correctly, our budget for 2014 was $800 for the year, of which we had just about $80 left over at the end of the year. We have receive 2 donations since January, and our website hosting bill is coming in late May, which will take the remainder of that, leaving only about $50. and that leaves us no money for prizes..

I need to stress the importance of continued donations to/from the community. They fund everything, from all the prizes, to the website, and domain name registration, to anything extra we want to have available for members to use.
I can't front this cost by myself. I got kids, and they suck the money right out of me, so if people don't regularly donate, we cannot provide these things. That's just the plain hard truth. :D

I'm not gonna pester people about money.. I put the bar up, and keep it updated as we receive donations, but over the last 2 years, its quite literally been 2-4 people that have been funding everything, and that's really not fair to them.
I will keep the website open for as long as people continue to use it, (That is my promise to the community, regardless of donations, I will keep the site running) but I can't fund all of the extra things on top of that, (prizes, DNS registration, privacy guard, Hosting of other services, etc..) without the communities help. That stuff is on the community.. So, with that being said, if we want vent, I'm gonna need $100.00 up front to cover the cost for the next year.

So that's the challenge: If you want ventrilo, or teamspeak, prove it to me; Everyone reach into your pocket, wade past the pocket lint, and gum wrappers, diaper rash paste, and pull out a mangled Hamilton, and send it to the website, and when I got 10 of those boogers, I will get vent turned back on in a magic-jiffy-lube :mod:

Of Course it costs money, everything does these days haha. To be honest, I doubt Teamspeak or vent will get used "enough" to be worth the $100 but I could be wrong. I can say for sure that I won't be using both often as I am more on Xbox than pc plus use Skype if I am on the pc, but I can't speak for the others.

Skype is free and has excellent audio quality. Also can do 25 people in audio calls and 10 in video, and 300 in instant messanger. They also have mobile and tablet and apps on xbox one. Don't know if there is one on ps.

I miss the old days also... Even though I haven't been here all that long.

I think 'smoke' underestimates his contributions to the site. He runs/keeps it going. But that is a tremendous feat in itself. Between beers he comes up with some creative content. But (again) he needs dedicated staff to drive the sites, visibility and direction. No slight to the staff. It takes a unique person to sacrifice their time to keep things rolling here.

As far as the voice chat/comm thingy. We used to use Vent for our monthly 'staff' meetings. The uses of the such a service (as already stated) needs to be more than a convenience but, a needed tool for all involved here. I guess I am stating the obvious. If we had a card game night it would be perfect for poker players (spades, hearts, old maid...) to use.

Lastly, I encourage (all those that have the means) to donate to the site. It may be slow now, but (a lot of 'buts' here) WE can bring back the old days. Only if the site stays in existence. If you can't part with the dollar (donation), give a dollar's worth of involvement.
