Heavenly Sword

Recently I dusted off my PS3 (literally) to play Heavenly Sword. The year it came out I watched my best friend play this and loved it but I never got around to getting a PS3. It's been sitting on my shelf for awhile and so I played it. It is short but I really enjoyed it. Some of the graphics and puzzle elements feel dated but the story is good and the gameplay mostly great (for the time). I recommend this if it even slightly interests you but it is not a must play. Also, for those who keep track..this game was pre-trophy system so no trophys.

agreed, Heavenly Sword was a pretty great game. It was one of the first must play PS3 games for me, coming out within the first year of the console. It was originally planned to be a trilogy but the sequel got canned early on for one reason or another. The devs went on to make Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and in my opinion, seems like some resources may have been re-purposed because that game felt influenced by Heavenly Sword.

If you dug the story there was also an anime series of maybe 5 episodes as a prequel to the game as well as a full animated movie that came out last year. Sony also still holds the license for the game so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that we would see another one come out one day

I knew about the movie but also heard it was not good. Still plan to see it someday if it crosses my path. I didn't know about the anime though. Thanks for the info. Glad someone else liked it.

lol yeah the movie was pretty bad. It's odd to see a movie that has worse animation and graphics than the game it was based on. It's one of those movies you watch just to see how bad it really is. The anime shorts are decent enough though and only takes about 10 minutes to get through the whole thing. Here's a video someone recorded of them all back to back
