Hey ladies and gentlemen, I know I am basically non-existent around here, but I am here to share some information with you all.
I received a certified letter from the DoD about two weeks ago and was honestly quite nervous about it at the start. Nightmares of recall and/or having some glaring issue and them wanting all of my everything to make up for it. But, it was not so, I was actually being contacted because I was medically discharged in 2005 and they are wanting to review my case.
Now, I am letting you know this because apparently word has had a hard time travelling out about this. So, I am hoping to help if any of you are in this situation and would like to learn about this. I am by no means a subject matter expert, I am just lightly informed and learning as much as I can to try and understand it fully.
This board is called the Physical Disability Board of Review. The intent of the board is to review the medical discharge and ensure that the Soldier/Airmen/Sailor/Marine wasn't low-balled with their rating. The board will look at your medical records and can make one of three decisions; Do nothing, increase your separation percentage, or increase your percentage and award a medical retirement.
I am not going to give a wall-o-text I am just gonna drop some links to useful articles and info I have found. I will answer any questions I can, and I will update my case as it progresses. So far I have submit my info and am awaiting any type of response, they did confirm receipt, just waiting to hear what is next.
In order to be considered you have to meet certain criteria:
WHO CAN APPLY TO THE PDBR? To be eligible for PDBR review, a Veteran must have been medically separated between September 11, 2001 and December 31, 2009 with a combined disability rating of 20 percent or less, and not have been found eligible for retirement. Former reserve members with greater than 20 years of Total Federal Military Service yet with fewer than 20 years of Active Duty and who meet the criteria listed above are also eligible to apply. There are roughly 75,000 eligible Veterans who are eligible to apply to the PDBR under the stated criteria. As of July 2011, just over 2,500 Veterans have applied.
