The latest and greatest version of windows went live today/yesterday. It's free for anyone with a valid copy of windows 7 and up so upgrade now
Supposedly this is going to be the last version of windows and it will just be updates from here on out but we shall see how that goes.
The upgrade should become available to you automatically if you qualify and are up to date so if nothing has popped up yet go through windows update and make sure you have all the latest updates and service packs and then it should give you the option to upgrade.
From what i've read and heard, if you want to do a clean install you have to upgrade first, then you can do the clean install after. waste of time installing twice but oh well, at least it's free

Upgrading my Surface. Will see how it goes. There is a little "windows" icon that pops up in the lower right of the menu bar (where the speaker control is). You can click that and it tells u if you system is eligible and you can start the upgrade from there
Some days the supply of curse words is insufficient to meet my demands
Here is the information for creating a media installation for Windows 10.

From what I've read and listened to on the subject of this "spying on everything" scare, it's been taken out of context and blown out of proportion. One of the podcasts I was listening to the other day actually said that this exact thing was probably going to happen; dozens of articles were going to pop up with headlines like "Windows 10 is spying on everything!!!!"
From what I've come to understand, this is actually referring to cloud storage data. If you put it in the cloud, Microsoft can and will access it if requested by law enforcement. This actually is in compliance with laws that are already in effect and applies to any data you put on any cloud services, be that through Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Dropbox, etc etc.
At this point we should already know that anything you put out into the internet is at risk of being seen by other parties some how or some way so the moral of this story should be If you want something secret/private to stay that way, don't put it online

It's more along the lines of your personal search stuff - at least the concerns I've seen have been more that (related to cortana). It sounded to me like it was basically indexing everything so it could be a better assistant - stuff it kind of needs to do to do it well, but the amount of data aggregation is kind of scary

Yeah, cortana is doing the same thing that Google does with Google now and apple does with siri, which everyone has seemed to accept, I think it's only because of the windows 10 spying headlines that everyone is freaking out in this instance

You can disable cortana and all the data aggregation stuff. Also it's nothing that google/chrome browser wasnt doing already. If that bothers you, there are alternatives.....
Anyway, Ive upgraded the Wife's laptop, the daughter's PC, my main PC and the work machine without any issues. I DID have to update the Nvidia driver everywhere that had a nvidia card. the AMD stuff came over seem less.

Hey guys now that it's been out for a while what's the verdict? We are currently still on Windows 7. My laptop is down due to one program(haven't figured out which) freezing it up a min or two after Windows loads. Not sure if I should try and update it or just fix it and continue on. It's an older laptop and the specs can be found here. http://m.newegg.com/Product/Details?itemnumber=N82E16834220733

Meh. I'm not impressed. There's some minor things that are nice, but overall I'd rather just keep 7

I run 7 at work, 10 at home. Save yourself potential upgrade headaches if you don't have a specific need which 10 offers and 7 doesn't.
Then again, if you really just want 10, get it. It's out of its Vista phase as far as I can tell.
Make sure to follow the upgrade precheck. I get paid 100 bucks an hour to fix computers people don't do it and rush into it. I like 10, and my upgrade went perfect but not everyone does
